The 10 Rules Of Rock And Roll

In his first book, Australian singer-songwriter Robert Forster takes readers on an idiosyncratic journey through the past and present of popular music: from Bob Dylan to Cat Power, from AC/DC to Nana Mouskouri, from The Saints to Franz Ferdinand. With 30 years experience as a recording artist and performer and an undimmed love of popular music, Forster's observations about his fellow artists balance the enthusiasm of a fan with an insider's authority. He is that rare thing, a musician who can write about music, and he brings to this collection of critical essays the erudition, wit and craft of his songwriting. Originally published in Australia in 2009, The 10 Rules of Rock and Roll was praised for its "fresh insights by a genuine master" (Courier Mail) and for providing an "assured guide to recent pop music from the perspective of a songwriter who has willingly kept up" (Weekend Australian). This revised and updated edition features new material not included in the original book, as well as short fiction and two moving tributes to Forster's fellow Go-Between, Grant McLennan.

As co-owner of Manchester's Hacienda club, Hook propelled the rise of acid house in the late 1980s, then suffered through its violent fall in the 1990s as gangs, drugs, greed and a hostile police force destroyed everything he and his friends had created. This is his memory o...

Saturday's Kids

'Saturday's Kids' is a collection of photographs of the early 1980s Mod scene in Southern England, the majority previously unseen. Darren Russell's images capture the style, attitude and innocence of youth in a scene organised by those who participated and which was totally driven from within. Although generally ignored by outsiders at the time, Mod's influence is now firmly established in high street fashion, music and advertising imagery. Includes rare photographs of Paul Weller of The Jam.

Bassist Andy Fraser joined Free at the age of fifteen, and was still a teenager when he co-wrote 'All Right Now'. The song became one of rock s most-played and best-loved anthems. After leaving Free in 1972 Fraser went on to write for Robert Palmer, Chaka Khan, Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart and many others. A period of personal discovery led to Fraser coming out as gay in the 1980s. He contracted AIDS and became gravely ill, but rallied with treatment and was healthy for a long period. He remained active as a musician and songwriter. He finally succumbed to his illness in March 2015, at the age of 62. In this candid memoir Fraser reflects on early fame, fatherhood, coming to terms with his sexuality and HIV-status, and life on the road in the golden age of rock.
