Finite Geometries, Groups, and Computation
This volume is the proceedings of a conference on Finite Geometries, Groups, and Computation that took place on September 4-9, 2004, at Pingree Park, Colorado (a campus of Colorado State University). Not accidentally, the conference coincided with the 60th birthday of William Kantor, and the topics relate to his major research areas. Participants were encouraged to explore the deeper interplay between these fields. The survey papers by Kantor, O'Brien, and Penttila should serve to introduce both students and the broader mathematical community to these important topics and some of their connections while the volume as a whole gives an overview of current developments in these fields.
Discrete Groups and Geometric Structures
This volume reports on research related to Discrete Groups and Geometric Structures, as presented during the International Workshop held May 26-30, 2008, in Kortrijk, Belgium. Theory and Applications of Finite Fields
This volume contains the proceedings of the 10th International Congress on Finite Fields and their Applications (Fq 10), held July 11-15, 2011, in Ghent, Belgium. Research on finite fields and their practical applications continues to flourish. This volume's topics, which include finite geometry, finite semifields, bent functions, polynomial theory, designs, and function fields, show the variety of research in this area and prove the tremendous importance of finite field theory.
Intelligent Computer Mathematics
This book constitutes the joint refereed proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Symbolic Computation, AISC 2010, the 17th Symposium on the Integration of Symbolic Computation and Mechanized Reasoning, Calculemus 2010, and the 9th International Conference on Mathematical Knowledge Management, MKM 2010. All submissions passed through a rigorous review process. From the 25 papers submitted to AISC 2010, 9 were selected for presentation at the conference and inclusion in the proceedings volume. A total of 14 papers were submitted to Calculemus, of which 7 were accepted. MKM 2010 received 27 submissions, of which 16 were accepted for presentation and publication. The events focused on the use of AI techniques within symbolic computation and the application of symbolic computation to AI problem solving; the combination of computer algebra systems and automated deduction systems; and mathematical knowledge management, respectively.

Textbooks and War
This volume reflects on the role played by textbooks in the complex relationship between war and education from a historical and multinational perspective, asking how textbook content and production can play a part in these processes. It has long been established that history textbooks play a key role in shaping the next generation’s understanding of both past events and the concept of ‘friend’ and ‘foe’. Considering both current and historical textbooks, often through a bi-national comparative approach, the editors and contributors investigate various important aspects of the relationships between textbooks and war, including the role wars play in the creation of national identities (whether the country is on the winning or losing side), the effacement of international wars to highlight a country’s exceptionalism, or the obscuring of intra-national conflict through the ways in which a civil war is portrayed. This pioneering book will be of interest and value to students and scholars of textbooks, educational media and the relationships between curricula and war.
