This publication aims to discuss the technical advances and the developments of the basics of electromagnetic NDT. Though one of the main topics is the Eddy Current Testing which is put to practical use in industry now as one of the approved methods of crack detection in steels and metallic structures, Electromagnetic Nondestructive Evaluation (X) emphasizes magnetic NDE method according to the concept of NDE & Science Research Center. The book contains thirty-three technical papers, covering topics on eddy current testing and technique, industrial applications, new methods, NDE by magnetism and magnetics, inverse problem and benchmark. The material is important for scientists and engineers working in the field of electromagnetic nondestructive testing or nondestructive evaluation, in defect detection and sizing, as well as in material characterization.

The use of electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation has grown significantly in recent years. This valuable technique enables the assessment of objects by observing the electromagnetic response to electric currents and/or magnetic fields introduced within them. This book presents the proceedings of the 23rd International Workshop on Electromagnetic Nondestructive Evaluation (ENDE2018), held in Detroit, Michigan, USA, from 9 - 13 September 2018. The workshop provides an international forum for the exchange of information on state-of-the-art technologies and development in electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation, and the 19 papers presented here cover topics including sensors; modeling; signal processing; inverse problems; materials state awareness and characterization; damage diagnosis and prognosis; biomedical applications; and innovative industrial applications of eNDE. Providing a comprehensive overview of current theoretical and applied research into electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation (eNDE) methods, the book will be of interest to all those whose work involves the non-destructive evaluation of objects, whatever their field.

Eddy current testing is a key technology among electromagnetic non-destructive testings at present and this situation was motivated by a stringent need to detect small cracks in tubing of a steam generator of nuclear power plants. In these five years the ECT technology has been enhanced very much, demonstrating that high performanced sensors for ECT are now ready to be applied to the annual inspection of steam generator tubing with use of arrayed micro sensors for ECT. In addition to the innovative technology, an inversion technique is being theoretically developed to make reconstruction of defects possible with use of data from the arrayed sensors. Rapid growth of interest in electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation have brought together experts from different parts of the world, as reflected in this work. The book is intended for engineers, researchers and practitioners working in the area of electromagnetism.

Electromagnetic Nondestructive Evaluation (ENDE) is an invaluable tool for assessing the condition of a test object without permanently altering or harming it in any way. It has become an indispensable technique for troubleshooting and research in diverse fields, such as engineering, medicine and art. This book presents one plenary lecture and 41 selected papers from the 19th International Workshop on Electromagnetic Nondestructive Evaluation, held in Xi’an, China, in June 2014. The workshop focused on research into the theory and application of ENDE methods, and provided a forum for the exchange of ideas and discussion of recent developments. The papers are arranged in five sections: material characterization; analytical and numerical modeling; inverse problems and signal processing; new developments and innovative industrial applications; and advanced sensors in ENDE.
