Groups and Computation
This volume contains papers presented at the Workshop on Groups and Computation, held in October, 1991. The workshop explored interactions among four areas: symbolic algebra and computer algebra, theoretical computer science, group theory, and applications of group computation. The relationships between implementation and complexity form a recurrent theme, though the papers also discuss such topics as parallel algorithms for groups, computation in associative algebras, asymptotic behavior of permutation groups, the study of finite groups using infinite reflection groups, combinatorial searching, computing with representations, and Cayley graphs as models for interconnection networks.
Interconnection Networks
Most of the articles in this book deal with static or point-to-point Interconnection Networks. In particular, new constructions are proposed based on different tools from discrete mathematics. Many new records have been established in the table of the maximum number of vertices of graphs with maximum degree &Dgr; and diameter D. Properties of these networks (and of more classical ones) are analyzed in many of the other papers. About 40% of the articles deal with fault tolerance or vulnerability properties using either combinatorial tools or probabilistic ones.

The workshop "Groups and Computations" took place at the Center for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science (DIMACS) at Rutgers University in June 1995.
