Group Representations

  • Type: Book
  • -
  • Published: 2016-06-06

  • Publisher: Elsevier

This volume is divided into three parts. Part I provides the foundations of the theory of modular representations. Special attention is drawn to the Brauer-Swan theory and the theory of Brauer characters. A detailed investigation of quadratic, symplectic and symmetric modules is also provided. Part II is devoted entirely to the Green theory: vertices and sources, the Green correspondence, the Green ring, etc. In Part III, permutation modules are investigated with an emphasis on the study of p-permutation modules and Burnside rings. The material is developed with sufficient attention to detail so that it can easily be read by the novice, although its chief appeal will be to specialists. A number of the results presented in this volume have almost certainly never been published before.

Yakov G. Berkovich; Lev S. Kazarin; Emmanuel M. Zhmud': Characters of Finite Groups. Volume 1

This updated edition of this classic book is devoted to ordinary representation theory and is addressed to finite group theorists intending to study and apply character theory. It contains many exercises and examples, and the list of problems contains a number of open questions.

Theory of Radicals

Radicals arose originally from structural investigations in rings, but later on they infiltrated into various branches of algebra, as well as into topology and relational structures. This volume is the result of a conference attended by mathematicians from all five continents and thus represents the current state of research in the area.

Groups '93 Galway/St Andrews: Volume 2

This two-volume book contains selected papers from the international conference 'Groups 1993 Galway / St Andrews' which was held at University College Galway in August 1993. The wealth and diversity of group theory is represented in these two volumes. As with the Proceedings of the earlier 'Groups-St Andrews' conferences it is hoped that the articles in these Proceedings will, with their many references, prove valuable both to experienced researchers and also to new postgraduates interested in group theory.

Algebras, Rings and Modules

Accosiative rings and algebras are very interesting algebraic structures. In a strict sense, the theory of algebras (in particular, noncommutative algebras) originated fromasingleexample, namelythequaternions, createdbySirWilliamR.Hamilton in1843. Thiswasthe?rstexampleofanoncommutative”numbersystem”. During thenextfortyyearsmathematiciansintroducedotherexamplesofnoncommutative algebras, began to bring some order into them and to single out certain types of algebras for special attention. Thus, low-dimensional algebras, division algebras, and commutative algebras, were classi?ed and characterized. The ?rst complete results in the structure theory of associative algebras over the real and co...

This self-contained reference/text presents a thorough account of the theory of real function algebras. Employing the intrinsic approach, avoiding the complexification technique, and generalizing the theory of complex function algebras, this single-source volume includes: an introduction to real Banach algebras; various generalizations of the Stone-Weierstrass theorem; Gleason parts; Choquet and Shilov boundaries; isometries of real function algebras; extensive references; and a detailed bibliography.;Real Function Algebras offers results of independent interest such as: topological conditions for the commutativity of a real or complex Banach algebra; Ransford's short elementary proof of the Bishop-Stone-Weierstrass theorem; the implication of the analyticity or antianalyticity of f from the harmonicity of Re f, Re f(2), Re f(3), and Re f(4); and the positivity of the real part of a linear functional on a subspace of C(X).;With over 600 display equations, this reference is for mathematical analysts; pure, applied, and industrial mathematicians; and theoretical physicists; and a text for courses in Banach algebras and function algebras.

This reference/text develops a constructive theory of solvability on linear and nonlinear abstract and differential equations - involving A-proper operator equations in separable Banach spaces, and treats the problem of existence of a solution for equations involving pseudo-A-proper and weakly-A-proper mappings, and illustrates their applications.;Facilitating the understanding of the solvability of equations in infinite dimensional Banach space through finite dimensional appoximations, this book: offers an elementary introductions to the general theory of A-proper and pseudo-A-proper maps; develops the linear theory of A-proper maps; furnishes the best possible results for linear equations;...
