Who is Who in Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry

  • Type: Book

This is an expanded and revised second edition, presenting accurate and comprehensive information about our leading thermal scientists to current and future generations. In our globalized world, most researchers in thermal analysis do not know each other in person and are not familiar with each other’s achievements. This volume provides the reader with an up-to-date list of the prominent members in this community. The publication contains only living scientists. The selection is based partly on several decades of the editors' personal professional experience and also partly on the opinion of the Regional Editors of the Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry.

Features twenty-five chapter contributions from an international array of distinguished academics based in Asia, Eastern and Western Europe, Russia, and the USA. This multi-author contributed volume provides an up-to-date and authoritative overview of cutting-edge themes involving the thermal analysis, applied solid-state physics, micro- and nano-crystallinity of selected solids and their macro- and microscopic thermal properties. Distinctive chapters featured in the book include, among others, calorimetry time scales from days to microseconds, glass transition phenomena, kinetics of non-isothermal processes, thermal inertia and temperature gradients, thermodynamics of nanomaterials, self-organization, significance of temperature and entropy. Advanced undergraduates, postgraduates and researchers working in the field of thermal analysis, thermophysical measurements and calorimetry will find this contributed volume invaluable. This is the third volume of the triptych volumes on thermal behaviour of materials; the previous two receiving thousand of downloads guaranteeing their worldwide impact.

Thermal Decomposition of Ionic Solids

The principal objective of this book is to stimulate interest in research that will extend available theory towards a greater understanding of the steps involved in solid-state decompositions and the properties of solids that control reactivities. Much of the activity in this field has been directed towards increasing the range of reactants for which decomposition kinetic data is available, rather than extending insights into the fundamental chemistry of the reactions being studied. The first part of the book (Chapters 1-6) is concerned with theoretical aspects of the subject. The second part (Chapters 7-17) surveys groups of reactions classified by similarities of chemical composition. The ...

Molecular Mechanisms of Notch Signaling

  • Type: Book

  • Published: 2018-07-20

  • Publisher: Springer

This book describes the Notch signaling pathway with a focus on molecular mechanisms. The Notch signaling pathway is a seemingly simple pathway that does not involve any second messenger. Upon ligand binding two consecutive proteolytic cleavages of the NOTCH receptor release the Notch intracellular domain from the membrane. The Notch intracellular domain migrates into the nucleus and activates gene expression. Recently, new technologies allowed us to better understand this pivotal signaling cascade and revealed new regulatory mechanisms. The different chapters cover many aspects of the Notch signaling focusing on the mechanisms governing the receptor/ligand interaction as well as on the downstream intracellular signaling events. Aspects of both canonical and non-canonical signaling are discussed and the function of Notch signaling in physiological and pathological contexts are elucidated. This book is not only intended for experts but it should also be a useful resource for young, sprouting scientists or interested scientists from other research areas, who may use this book as a stimulating starting point for further discoveries and developments.

Analytical Chemistry, Volume 7: Gravimetric Analysis, Part II describes the experimental procedures for the gravimetric analysis of Groups I to V cations. This book is composed of 43 chapters that also present sample preparation, separation, and precipitation protocols. The first six chapters include Group I cations, such as silver, lead, mercury, copper, bismuth, and cadmium, followed by chapters on Group II cations, including arsenic, antimony, tin, germanium, gold, platinum, selenium, and tellurium. The subsequent chapters explore the gravimetric determination of Group III cations, namely, aluminum, iron, chromium, nickel, cobalt, zinc, manganese, titanium, zirconium, hafnium, thorium, scandium, niobium and tantalum, molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, uranium, thallium, indium, gallium, and beryllium. The remaining chapters are devoted to analysis of various forms of Groups IV and V cations. This book will prove useful to analytical and inorganic chemists, teachers, and students in the allied fields.
