This book describes the Fabry-Perot interferometer and its variants as well as its use, optimisation and applications. The author begins with an historical perspective on the development of the instrument. Because of the quantitative uses of the device, the text tends to be mostly mathematical in its treatment. However, there is also much practical detail on the use and optimization of the Fabry-Perot interferometer and discussion of its classical uses (such as in metrology) and its contemporary applications (such as in lasers). In addition the book contains a comprehensive bibliography summarizing the extensive literature on the subject. This book will appeal both to high-resolution practitioners, such as spectroscopists, and to the laser community, since the Fabrv-Perot is not only an integral part of the laser but is also usea to characterize its optical and spectroscopic behaviour.
The Fabry-Perot Interferometer: History, Theory, Practice and Applications presents an invaluable introduction to the Fabry-Perot interferometer, including a brief overview of its history, a look at its applications, and plenty of practical advice on how to use the instrument.
The development of organic intermediates requires high performance and original technologies. This book reviews recent work on some fifteen basic technologies in intermediates development including; hydrogenation, fluorination, chlorination, nitration, enzymatic catalysis, hydroxylation, alkylation, carboxylation and the Friedel Crafts reaction. Problems and industrial constraints involved in industrial development are highlighted from a research viewpoint and new technologies with potential for use in industry, particularly catalyst-based technologies clean chemical processes, are described. A chapter dealing with reviews on sodium amidure and polymerisation inhibitors is included.
Nowadays, the chemical industry is under increased pressure to develop cleaner production processes and technologies. Much effort is devoted to the development of heterogeneous catalysts and their application in industrial-scale organic synthesis. This handbook concentrates on current attempts, focusing on fine chemical production. With contributions from an impressive array of international experts, this is essential reading for everyone interested in the advances in this field.
Presents advances in the field of hydrocracking. The volume includes catalytic materials, reaction mechanisms and pathways, as well as hydrocracking processes and applications. It discusses hydrocracking processes and hydrocracking technology in catalytic dewaxing, resid upgrading, and fluid catalytic cracking feedstock improvement

Dear Friends, It seems like it was only yesterday that we drove the last of you to the airport. The memories and the spirit of the Scientific Detectors for Astronomy Workshop (SDW2002) remain fresh and strong. For us, this was a very special event, a great gathering of what may be one of the friendliest and most cooperative technical communities on our little planet. We have tried to capture the spirit of the Workshop in these Proceedings and we hope you are able to relive your week in Hawaii. For those readers who did not attend, we invite you into this community. As you probably noticed, there is a new name on the cover: Jenna Beletic was the ace up our sleeve for these Proceedings. As a s...
The recession in the traditional heavy industries along with the development of advanced technologies in all the industrial countries has meant that the impact of heterogeneous catalysis in the synthesis of fine chemicals is becoming increasingly noticeable. The second International Symposium on Heterogeneous Catalysis and Fine Chemicals is to be seen in this perspective. Organised by the Laboratory of Catalysis in Organic Chemistry of the University of Poitiers within the framework of the International Symposia of the `Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique' (CNRS), the symposium provided an opportunity for contact between academic researchers and manufacturers, users (or potential us...
This thesis presents the first comprehensive analysis of quantum cascade laser nonlinear dynamics and includes the first observation of a temporal chaotic behavior in quantum cascade lasers. It also provides the first analysis of optical instabilities in the mid-infrared range. Mid-infrared quantum cascade lasers are unipolar semiconductor lasers, which have become widely used in applications such as gas spectroscopy, free-space communications or optical countermeasures. Applying external perturbations such as optical feedback or optical injection leads to a strong modification of the quantum cascade laser properties. Optical feedback impacts the static properties of mid-infrared Fabry–Per...
Non-linear, or chaotic behaviour in real world systems has been reported in electronic circuits and communications systems, chemical reactions, biological behaviour. Applications include solitons, integrable systems, cellular automata, pattern formation, qualitative structure and bifurcation theory, onset of chaos and turbulence, analytic dynamics, and transport phenomena. This book presents important new research in this dynamic field.
