This is what I feel today. After all these years of "development" as they say in developed countries, all I see that we have managed to do now is to give rights to everyone to be highly annoyed and perpetually vexed. So, this is life in the 21st century. Rights galore to amuse ourselves but no right to BE. Individuality is promoted but police come to handcuff children in nurseries when they don't follow adult dictates. This is how understanding our adult population is today. The disaster situation of over control is evident in all we do. Our food is poisoned and medicines kill more often than the illness. There are so many rules and laws and by-laws that by general reckoning, we are breaking some law or the other every moment of our lives. And we hide behind screens of various sizes. In light of current discourses on AI and robotics, what do the various experiences of art contribute to the rethinking of technology today? Art and Cosmotechnics addresses the challenge of technology to the existence of art and traditional thought, especially in light of current discourses on artificial intelligence and robotics. It carries out an attempt on the cosmotechnics of Chinese landscape painting in order to address this question, and further asks: What is the significance of shanshui (mountain and water) in face of the new challenges brought about by the current technological transformation? Thinking art and cosmotechnics together is an attempt to look into the varieties of experiences of art and to ask what these experiences might contribute to the rethinking of technology today.

An important component of Division TEACCH's mandate from the Department of Psychiatry of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and the North Carolina State Legislature is to conduct research aimed toward improving the understanding of developmental disabilities such as autism and to train the professionals who will be needed to work with this challenging population. An important mechanism to help meet these goals is our annual conference on topics of special importance for the understanding and treatment of autism and related disorders. As with the preceding books in this series entitled Current Issues in Autism, this most recent volume is based on one of these conferences. The books are not, however, simply published proceedings of conference papers. Instead, cer tain conference participants were asked to develop chapters around their pres entations, and other national and intemational experts whose work is beyond the scope of the conference but related to the conference theme were asked to contribute manuscripts as weil.
