Gold Fever tells the story of the heady days following the discovery of gold in Australia. When, in 1851, the focus of the world suddenly turned to the hills, gullies and swirling creeks of New South Wales and Victoria as 'new chums' from all over the world rushed to be rich. This beautifully detailed work includes a narrative that captures the colourful characters and wittily observed sketches of everyday goldfields life. Never out of print since first published in 2001, now updated and in a new format. Geoff Hocking is an author, designer, artist and lecturer. He is the author of many books on Australian history, including Wild Colonial Boys and Under the Southern Cross. He lives in the Victoria's Castlemaine, part of Victoria's golden triangle.

Eureka! is a richly illustrated history which documents the events leading up to the attack on the stockade, built by disaffected diggers on the Eureka diggings near Ballarat, by the combined forces of the 12th and 40th Regiments of the British Army, the goldfield's police and troopers in the pre-dawn of 3 December 1854.Diggers, angry at the corruption of goldfields' administration and continued harassment by police in pursuit of the much-hated license fee, had banded together to resist, and defend themselves, in a crudely built stockade on the Eureka diggings. They erected a bush pole in the centre of the stockade and flew the Diggers' Banner, a flag of blue cloth on which a white cross and five stars representing the Southern Cross had been sewn. Short-lived though the rebellion was, the results of the battle at the Eureka Stockade were far-reaching - giving birth to the desire for true democracy in the nascent Australian nation.Author Geoff Hocking has brought together artworks, historical photographs, newspaper illustrations and contemporary graphics to tell the story of Australia's first and only armed insurrection by free men.Second, paperback, edition.

Sandhurst was originally the name given to the city that is today known as Bendigo. The goldfields were known as the Bendigo diggings, a name appropriated from the all-England bare-knuckle boxing champion William 'Bold Bendigo' Thompson who was at the height of his fame at the time of the discovery of gold.A shepherd, whose hut was on the northern rim of the Ravenswood No 2. sheep run was known to be handy with his fists and earned the nickname 'Bendigo'.
