Notes on little-known "Bingham Report" which covers some of the traffic features of New Zealand tramways in 1897-1898. The report titled "Report on New Zealand tramways" was prepared by W. Gentry Bingham of W.G. Bingham and Associates after he visited New Zealand in April and May 1898. He represented the New Zealand Electric Light and Traction Company of London, a British syndicate interested in electric tramway investment. During his two month stay, Bingham examined the existing horse and steam tramway systems in the four main cities and his report is a useful comparative study of tramways in the major cities and provides reasonably good statistical material.
