Digital Classical Philology
Thanks to the digital revolution, even a traditional discipline like philology has been enjoying a renaissance within academia and beyond. Decades of work have been producing groundbreaking results, raising new research questions and creating innovative educational resources. This book describes the rapidly developing state of the art of digital philology with a focus on Ancient Greek and Latin, the classical languages of Western culture. Contributions cover a wide range of topics about the accessibility and analysis of Greek and Latin sources. The discussion is organized in five sections concerning open data of Greek and Latin texts; catalogs and citations of authors and works; data entry, collection and analysis for classical philology; critical editions and annotations of sources; and finally linguistic annotations and lexical databases. As a whole, the volume provides a comprehensive outline of an emergent research field for a new generation of scholars and students, explaining what is reachable and analyzable that was not before in terms of technology and accessibility.
Innovative Internet Community Systems
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed postproceedings of the Third International Workshop on Innovative Internet Community Systems, IICS 2003, held in Leipzig, Germany in June 2003. The 19 revised full papers presented together with 2 invited papers have gone through two rounds of reviewing and improvement and were selected from more than 30 submissions. Among the topics addressed are semantic search, network communities, e-learning, message-oriented middleware, networked information spaces, mobile business processes, distributed communication systems, distributed Web applications, semantic Web environments, file-sharing systems, network intrusion detection, protocols, self-organizing networks, XML, and linguistic knowledge services.
Text Mining
This book comprises a set of articles that specify the methodology of text mining, describe the creation of lexical resources in the framework of text mining and use text mining for various tasks in natural language processing (NLP). The analysis of large amounts of textual data is a prerequisite to build lexical resources such as dictionaries and ontologies and also has direct applications in automated text processing in fields such as history, healthcare and mobile applications, just to name a few. This volume gives an update in terms of the recent gains in text mining methods and reflects the most recent achievements with respect to the automatic build-up of large lexical resources. It addresses researchers that already perform text mining, and those who want to enrich their battery of methods. Selected articles can be used to support graduate-level teaching. The book is suitable for all readers that completed undergraduate studies of computational linguistics, quantitative linguistics, computer science and computational humanities. It assumes basic knowledge of computer science and corpus processing as well as of statistics.
Aspects of Automatic Text Analysis
This book presents recent developments in automatic text analysis. Providing an overview of linguistic modeling, it collects contributions of authors from a multidisciplinary area that focus on the topic of automatic text analysis from different perspectives. It includes chapters on cognitive modeling and visual systems modeling, and contributes to the computational linguistic and information theoretical grounding of automatic text analysis.
Historical Corpora
The volume contains 23 papers read at the international conference "Historical Corpora 2012", which was hosted by the LOEWE Research Cluster "Digital Humanities" of the State of Hesse at the University of Frankfurt on December 6-8, 2012. The papers, which include three keynote speeches, have been duly updated for the present volume. The contributions take a broad variety of perspectives on "historical corpora", including their structuring, their management, and various other facets. In addition to this, they cover a large amount of different languages, extending from German - in nearly all its historical facettes - across the Romance languages into the Caucasus and from the recent past down into antiquity. Differences also concern the linguistic interests prevailing in the papers, which may focus on syntactic, semantic, pragmatic, lexicological or other phenomena.
