This book brings together Rita Ackermann's "Mama" paintings, a selection of which will be on view in early 2020 at Hauser & Wirth New York, 22nd Street. It brings together screenwriter and filmmaker Harmony Korine's fake interview with Ackermann, a tribute addressed to the artist from Scott Griffin that explores Ackermann's interplay of time and medium, an original poem written by the artist, and a robust plate section that presents all of the "Mama" works made to date. Jules Spinatsch's answer to the traditional distinction between applied & free photography can best be described as a cheerful "do-as-you-please" approach. Though written as it happened like a diary, in its cinematic sweep, it reads like a novel.
