The Healing Power of Community

The Healing Power of Community offers a diverse cross section of interdisciplinary and depth-psychological perspectives in support of using mutual aid approaches in all levels of group and community practice as a remedy for individualism and social and political divisions, centering social justice. Written by three distinct voices who collaborated at the height of the AIDS crisis, the book begins with an autoethnographic study of Project Quest, an HIV/AIDS clinic established in 1989, before looking at how the lessons learnt from this clinic can be applied to our current global mental health climate. Filled with clinical and theoretical applications, chapters include content on what mutual ai...

Winner of the IAJS Book Award 2023 for Best Applied Book This fascinating volume uses psychoanalytic theory to explore how political subjectivity comes about within the context of global catastrophe, via the emergence of collective individuations through trans-subjectivity. Serving as a jumping-off point to address the structural linkage between collective catastrophe, subject, group, and political transformation, trans-subjectivity is the central tenet of the book, conceptualized as a psyche-social dynamic that initiates social transformation and which may be enhanced in the clinical setting. Each chapter investigates a distinct manifestation of trans-subjectivity in relation to various rea...

Ellen (Stackhouse) Cowgill (b.ca. 1636) was a daughter of Thomas and Anna Stackhouse of Giggleswick, Yorkshire, England. No record of Ellen's husband has been found (apparently he died before 1682). She and her five children (3 boys, 2 girls) immigrated in 1682 to Philadelphia, traveling with her brother Thomas Stackhouse and his family. Descendants and relatives of Ellen lived in Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and elsewhere.
