Constant false alarm rate detection processes are important in radar signal processing. Such detection strategies are used as an alternative to optimal Neyman-Pearson based decision rules, since they can be implemented as a sliding window process running on a radar range-Doppler map. This book examines the development of such detectors in a modern framework. With a particular focus on high resolution X-band maritime surveillance radar, recent approaches are outlined and examined. Performance is assessed when the detectors are run in real X-band radar clutter. The book introduces relevant mathematical tools to allow the reader to understand the development, and follow its implementation.

This book presents a unique and comprehensive introduction to performance prediction of directed energy (DE) systems using mathematical modeling frameworks, with focus on high power radio frequency and high energy laser performance. It provides system designers with a means for predicting DE system performance and measuring the required power levels necessary to neutralize targets including UAVs and other unmanned swarms. The book begins with a systematic and concise overview of DE systems, including its historical roots. You will then learn how to develop effective mathematical models and understand how to use these models to implement safer and efficient use of DE systems in various scenar...

Digital Communication

All marketing is digital and everyone should have a digital strategy. Everything is going mobile. "The world has never been more social" is the recent talk in the community. Digital Communication is the key enabler of that. Digital information tends to be far more resistant to transmit and interpret errors than information symbolized in an analog medium. This accounts for the clarity of digitally-encoded telephone connections, compact audio disks, and much of the enthusiasm in the engineering community for digital communications technology. A contemporary and comprehensive coverage of the field of digital communication, this book explores modern digital communication techniques. The purpose of this book is to extend and update the knowledge of the reader in the dynamically changing field of digital communication.

Advances in Statistical Methodologies and Their Application to Real Problems

In recent years, statistical techniques and methods for data analysis have advanced significantly in a wide range of research areas. These developments enable researchers to analyze increasingly large datasets with more flexibility and also more accurately estimate and evaluate the phenomena they study. We recognize the value of recent advances in data analysis techniques in many different research fields. However, we also note that awareness of these different statistical and probabilistic approaches may vary, owing to differences in the datasets typical of different research fields. This book provides a cross-disciplinary forum for exploring the variety of new data analysis techniques emerging from different fields.
