Recommendations for Usage, Commercial Contracts, and Cost Recovery in Government Contracts

This book will be of interest to those in the field of contract management in the United States government, the private sector, and internationally. This book is relevant to scholars and academics as well as both American and international policymakers, those working in the field of contract management, and those seeking to join the field of contract management. It will be useful for people interested in contracting with the United States government and in designing and implementing acquisitions and or contract management policy both in the United States of America and internationally. Lastly, it will be useful for people in a wide variety of industries, countries, and regions internationally and in the United States of America already contracting with the United States government or interested in contracting with the United States government in understanding how to terminate commercial contracts for convenience using United States of America procurement regulations.

Precision Vaccinology for Infectious Diseases

The Human body is a vast network of interacting genes, proteins, and metabolites. These components, which may be considered host factors, change under disease, treatment or healthy condition. While treatment of many diseases depends on therapeutic drugs, vaccines remain the most effective long-term public health intervention to prevent infectious diseases. To date, vaccines have been developed to treat entire populations with little provision for predisposing individual host factor differences. However, the use and application of vaccines is facing multiple challenges with increasing numbers of vaccine non-responders and vaccine-relapsed individuals. The cause of this complication is partially due to host-factors. Another challenge is the adverse effects of vaccines in patients with primary immunodeficiency or autoimmune diseases, as well as vaccine-waning immunity in ageing populations, obese populations, or those with co-infection. To overcome these challenges, the solution may be the design, and formulation of precision vaccines, which are patient-specific.

Article Classification: Viewpoint Purpose: Cost recovery in commercial item contracts is difficult to calculate when contracts are terminated for convenience and contractors are seeking to recover the amount of cost to recover on the contract. For uniformity, present value methodologies and clauses are needed. Design: Based on a review of literature, FASB concept statement no. 7, and the FAR; a way to calculate present value of commercial item contracts is identified as well as present value clauses. Findings: Commercial items involving an uncertain degree of risk and dynamic costs use a fuzzy net cash flow methodology to calculate cash flow in order account for risk and changing investment ...

Contemporary High Performance Computing: From Petascale toward Exascale, Volume 3 focuses on the ecosystems surrounding the world’s leading centers for high performance computing (HPC). It covers many of the important factors involved in each ecosystem: computer architectures, software, applications, facilities, and sponsors. This third volume will be a continuation of the two previous volumes, and will include other HPC ecosystems using the same chapter outline: description of a flagship system, major application workloads, facilities, and sponsors. Features: Describes many prominent, international systems in HPC from 2015 through 2017 including each system’s hardware and software architecture Covers facilities for each system including power and cooling Presents application workloads for each site Discusses historic and projected trends in technology and applications Includes contributions from leading experts Designed for researchers and students in high performance computing, computational science, and related areas, this book provides a valuable guide to the state-of-the art research, trends, and resources in the world of HPC.

The design, function, and challenges of online telerobotic systems. Remote-controlled robots were first developed in the 1940s to handle radioactive materials. Trained experts now use them to explore deep in sea and space, to defuse bombs, and to clean up hazardous spills. Today robots can be controlled by anyone on the Internet. Such robots include cameras that not only allow us to look, but also go beyond Webcams: they enable us to control the telerobots' movements and actions. This book summarizes the state of the art in Internet telerobots. It includes robots that navigate undersea, drive on Mars, visit museums, float in blimps, handle protein crystals, paint pictures, and hold human hands. The book describes eighteen systems, showing how they were designed, how they function online, and the engineering challenges they meet.
