English Translation of the Holy Quran, with Arabic Text, and Made-Easy Transliteration: Volume 1 (Part 1 - Part 17)

Volume 1: This book provides, in two volumes, an English translation of the Holy Quran, accompanied by the original Arabic text of the Quran with a transliteration of the Arabic text into English language characters. The transliteration will enable those who cannot read the Arabic text to recite it by following its representation in the English alphabet. To help the ordinary reader, the transliteration shows the sounds of the Arabic letters and words through English letters, without employing any diacritical marks used in formal, academic transliteration. The hyphen is used to separate syllables. Underlining is used under two successive letters to represent doubled letters (as in inna) or when the two letters stand for a single letter of the Arabic alphabet (as in kh or sh). The transliteration and the Arabic text are laid out side-by-side in two columns, with each verse beginning on a new line. The English translation is provided after each "section" in case of the long chapters (i.e., chapters up to ch. 80) and after the entire chapter in case of short chapters (i.e., chapters 80 to the end).

The Quran

This volume is one of two edited by Andrew Rippin which are designed to complement one another, and to comprehend the principal trends in modern scholarship on the Qur’an. Both volumes are provided with a new introduction by the editor, analysing this scholarship, and providing references for further study. The Qur’an: Style and Contents reveals the variety of approaches followed within the study of the text. From Nöldeke’s examination of style through Arkoun’s project for the future, these scholarly statements reflect the historical development of the discipline, while providing overviews of key elements for the understanding of the Qur’an.

The book explains Sadrā’s theory of the nature of afterlife. It presents Sadrā’s philosophical premises concerning the nature of human beings and their physical and psychological developments through which Sadrā shows how the afterlife is intimately connected to the nature of the human being and how it is a natural stage of the evolution of each individual in which a corporeal body has no role. Presenting Mullā Sadrā in a new light, the aim of this book is to investigate Sadrā’s metaphysical principles of the Return (al-ma‘ād) that have been either partially presented or misunderstood in most of the existing secondary literature. Focusing on Sadrā’s philosophical works, spe...

From ancient Mesopotamia into the 20th century, "the Circle of Justice" as a concept has pervaded Middle Eastern political thought and underpinned the exercise of power in the Middle East. The Circle of Justice depicts graphically how a government’s justice toward the population generates political power, military strength, prosperity, and good administration. This book traces this set of relationships from its earliest appearance in the political writings of the Sumerians through four millennia of Middle Eastern culture. It explores how people conceptualized and acted upon this powerful insight, how they portrayed it in symbol, painting, and story, and how they transmitted it from one reg...
