Nesta edição, foram acolhidas as recentes alterações ao Código de Processo Penal que incidiram, designadamente, sobre o tratamento dado às vítimas de terrorismo e sobre o direito de nomeação de intérprete e de tradução de documentos essenciais para o exercício da defesa. Tivemos ainda em atenção o vasto leque de diplomas que atingiram o Código Penal, os quais se dedicaram, entre outros, ao reforço e proteção das vítimas de crimes contra a liberdade sexual. No plano da legislação extravagante conexa com o processo penal, destacamos a Lei no 18/2024, de 5 de fevereiro, que regula o acesso a metadados referentes a comunicações eletrónicas para fins de investigação criminal. Continuamos a valorar os contributos doutrinais e jurisprudenciais (nacionais e comunitários) sobre os temas retratados.
New Insights in Leprosy (Hansen's Disease)
Leprosy (or Hansen’s disease) is a chronic infectious granulomatous disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis that affects predominantly the skin and peripheral nerves. Leprosy is one of the oldest known illnesses of mankind; however, it is still one of the most neglected diseases worldwide, impacting more than 120 countries, mainly in underdeveloped settings. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for reducing the burden of this disease and avoiding long-term irreversible consequences such as deformities and mutilations. Thus, the World Health Organization has focused its efforts on preventive programs as well as the search for easy-to-handle diagnosis tools and the implementation of new strategies to improve the therapeutic options available.

Dos Honorários de Advogado - Em Especial, o Laudo sobre Honorários
O tema dos honorários assume uma importância nuclear na vida de um advogado. Matéria sensível no mosaico das normas de natureza deontológica da profissão, constitui, também, um momento delicado e fator de cada vez maior litigiosidade. O presente trabalho pretende ser um simples contributo para o estudo do tema dos honorários devidos ao advogado, resultando da experiência obtida pelo autor como relator-adjunto no Conselho Superior da Ordem dos Advogados desde o triénio 2014/2016. Sugere-se, na obra, um critério para a distinção entre trabalho intelectualmente complexo e o burocrático, atenta a mais recente orientação jurisprudencial das Relações e do Conselho Superior. De igual modo, o presente escrito ocupa-se do laudo de honorários, mecanismo pericial determinante para a qualificação e valorização dos serviços prestados pelo advogado à luz das normas estatutárias e regulamentares. Complementa-se este trabalho com excertos da legislação mais pertinente e minutas de solicitação de provisão e de conta de honorários.
Diálogo de Jurisdições
O pós-guerra alçou o Direito Internacional a um patamar jamais visto como balizador das relações da sociedade internacional e, além disso, como garantidor da existência de mundo. Dessa forma, nasce o Jus Cogens como valores superiores à vontade dos Estados. Qualquer violação a essas normas pode causar responsabilidade internacional do país violador. Entretanto, questiona-se: as Cortes Judiciais têm efetivamente punido os Estados violadores das normas imperativas? Dessa forma, é necessário analisar as decisões das Cortes Internacionais a respeito do tema. Para isso, é preciso, antes, versar sobre o Direito Internacional (conceito, fundamentos, sujeitos, meios de solução de conflitos), discutir a influência da globalização na sociedade internacional e na redefinição de soberania, elucidar o Jus Cogens e a responsabilidade internacional pela sua violação. Por fim, procurou-se avaliar as decisões judiciais da Corte Internacional de Justiça, da Corte Interamericana de Direitos Humanos e do Superior Tribunal de Justiça, a partir da questão da violação de normas imperativas.
