Innan fåglarna vänder åter
Vintern 1939–1940 kämpar Finland mot det invaderande Sovjetunionen. Vinterkriget leder till förlikning där Sovjetunionen får Karelen. Tjugotreåriga Alli tvingas tillsammans med sin familj lämna huset vid sjön och ta sig väster ut för att undkomma de ryska soldaterna. Det blir en svår flykt och familjen tvingas dela på sig. Alli och hennes nyblivna, höggravida svägerska Sylvi tar med sig en ko och en häst och bestämmer sig för att försöka ta sig till staden Seinäjoki. De lovar varandra att de ska återvända till sitt älskade Karelen innan flyttfåglarna vänder åter. Väl framme i Finland återförenas familjen, men slitningar gör snart att det än en gång splittras. Det finska livet är något helt annat än det de levde i Karelen och Alli ser sitt tidigare liv med nya ögon.

Eighteenth and nineteenth century European, British and American newspapers constitute a rich and largely untapped source of contemporary, often eyewitness accounts of historical events and opinions concerning Iran from the late Safavid (1712) through the Qajar (c. 1797-1920) period. This study collects and annotates thousands of articles published in the Colonial and early Republican American newspapers, from the first mention of events in Persia in the American press (1712) to the death of Mohammad Shah (1848), unlocking for the first time a wealth of information on Iran and its place in the world during the 18th and early 19th century.
