Internet of Things: Connecting Objects puts forward the technologies and the networking architectures which make it possible to support the Internet of Things. Amongst these technologies, RFID, sensor and PLC technologies are described and a clear view on how they enable the Internet of Things is given. Wireless and Mobile Networking
Research and development in wireless and mobile networks and services areas have been going on for some time, reaching the stage of products. Graceful evo- tion of networks, new access schemes, flexible protocols, increased variety of services and applications, networks reliability and availability, security, are some of the present and future challenges that have to be met. MWCN (Mobile and Wireless Communications Networks) and PWC (Personal Wireless Communications) are two conferences sponsored by IFIP WG 6.8 that provide forum for discussion between researchers, practitioners and students interested in new developments in mobile and wireless networks, services, applications and computing. In 2008, MWCN and PWC were held in Toulouse, France, from September 30 to October 2, 2008. MWNC’2008 and PWC’2008 were coupled to form the first edition of IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC’2008). MWCN and PWC topics were revisited in order to make them complementary and covering together the main hot issues in wireless and mobile networks, services, applications, computing, and technologies.
Wireless and Mobile Networking
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second IFIP WG 6.8 Joint Conference on Wireless and Mobile Networking, WMNC 2009, held in Gdansk, Poland, in September 2009. The 30 thoroughly revised papers presented together with one invited talk were selected from 65 submissions. The papers are evenly split among three tracks: Personal Wireless Communications (PWC), Wireless Sensor and Actors Networks (WSAN) and Mobile and Wireless Communications Networks (MWCN) reflecting the state of the art, current discussions, and development trends in wireless and mobile networks and services. They are divided in topical sections on IMS interoperability; QoS and multimedia support; network design; sensor networks; trust management and competitive networking; location algorithms; evolution of 3G, 3G/4G and future generation systems; and handover mechanisms.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th IEEE Workshop on IP Operations and Management, IPOM 2008, held on Samos Island, Greece, on September 22-26, 2008, as part of the 4th International Week on Management of Networks and Services, Manweek 2008. The 12 revised full papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 30 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on network anomaly detection; traffic engineering, protection, and recovery; network measurements and applications; and network management and security.

Smart Spaces and Next Generation Wired/Wireless Networking
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Next Generation Teletraffic and Wired/Wireless Advanced Networking, NEW2AN 2009, held in conjunction with the Second Conference on Smart Spaces, ruSMART 2009 in St. Petersburg, Russia, in September 2009. The 32 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 82 submissions. The NEW2AN papers are organized in topical sections on teletraffic issues; traffic measurements, modeling, and control; peer-to-peer systems; security issues; wireless networks: ad hoc and mesh; and wireless networks: capacity and mobility. The ruSMART papers start with an invited talk followed by 10 papers on smart spaces.

“What a di?erence a year makes – 52 little weeks” This variation of the ?rst line from Dinah Washington’s famous song, which originally reads, “What a di?erence a day makes - 24 little hours,” brings it to the point: Accordingtoallexperts,thepress,andmostpeople’simpressionwearetoday in a serious economic recession. Less than one year ago, we practically lived on the “island of the blessed” (namely, at Networking 2008 that was held on the island of Singapore), or in the famous country where “milk and honey ?ow” (or “where wine and liquor ?ow”). This convenient situation has changed abruptly within less than 52 weeks. It looks like the same kind of problems has emerged in all areas – and the “Networking” area has, of course, been a?ected, too. Looking into the 2009 proceedings, however, you will immediately notice that the manuscripts are largely una?ected by any aspect of the economic c- sis (which should be a bit of a consolation). Apparently, research directions are dictated by a process that is all too sluggish in order to be quickly and radically changed by a “tsunami.” Likewise, the conference itself was prepared in spite of such a crisis.
