Dabei wird klar, dass sich die Weltfinanzkrise sowohl auf die verschiedenen Weltregionen als auch auf unterschiedliche Politikbereiche spezifisch auswirkt.

Die Internationale Politische Ökonomie (IPÖ) hat sich seit den 1970er Jahren zu einem lebhaften Forschungszweig entwickelt. Die Globalisierungs- und Weltordnungspolitik der Europäischen Union
Noch immer sehen viele in der europäischen Integration vor allem eine Reaktion und Antwort auf die Globalisierung. Zuletzt wird jedoch sehr intensiv darüber diskutiert, ob und inwiefern die EU selbst eine aktive Globalisierungs- und auch Weltordnungspolitik praktiziert. Diese Studie arbeitet sehr gründlich, theoretisch-konzeptionell und empirisch heraus, dass dies in beträchtlichem Umfang inzwischen der Fall ist. Nicht zuletzt werden die Kernelemente und Operationsformen eines europäischen Staats-Zivilgesellschafts-Komplexes identifiziert, der auch die Außenbeziehungen EU, insbesondere in den Bereichen der Handels-, Währungs- und Finanzmarkt- sowie auch der Sicherheitspolitik, maßgeblich definiert. Gestützt auf die spezifischen Muster der staatlich-zivilgesellschaftlichen Interaktion verfolgt die EU bislang eine primär kooperative und rechtsbasierte Hegemonialstrategie, die allerdings zunehmend – z.B. mit Blick auf die Energiesicherheit – durch geoökonomische und geopolitische Ziele und Strategieelemente ergänzt wird.
