This outstanding manual is conceived for both the novice and the experienced practitioner of regional anesthesia. Each illustration consists of layers of colored transparencies grouped together in order to provide a brilliant display of the regional anatomy of different blocks in natural perspective. This unique format allows the reader to become familiar with the deeper anatomy of related structures by examining the individual transparencies or even removing them for overhead projection. It thereby becomes possible for relate exactly needle position to important anatomical structures. The text is brief, limited to concise descriptions of general principles for the management of the patient undergoing regional anesthesia. All the common blocks have been described and potential side effects and hazards are indicated. The visual impact and didactic clarity of this work make it an indispensable teaching aid and refresher for the accurate and safe execution of regional anesthetic procedures.

This book presents to all those who are interested in the history of Anaesthesiology historical details and information on the development of anaesthesiology in Germany and the remarkable growth of our Society. At the founding session of the German Society of Anaesthesia in Munich on 10 April 1953 42 persons had signed the founding documents. Today about 12,000 anaesthetists are members of the German Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, making the DGAI the biggest national society within ESA. Well known are the pioneering contributions of German scientists and surgeons to the development of general, regional and local anaesthesia during the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. But less known outside Germany are the reasons for the delayed evolution of anaesthesiology as a specialty of its own in German medicine, far later than in the UK, Scandinavia or the USA. In this book you will find answers to this question and detailed information on the successful evolution of anaesthesiology especially at the Faculties of Medicine at German universities.

A series of dictionaries on the contemporary milieu of the world's most important countries. The ContemporaryCountry Dictionary series are not tourist guides--though tourists with a serious interest in countries they are visiting will find them of great help in learning more about these societies. These alphabetical reference guides have been compiled to give up-to-date information on all aspects of each country--explanations of terms that are outside the scope of a standard dictionary or encyclopedia--including acronyms, political and legal institutions, cultural phenomena, social welfare programs, industrial concerns, media, literary and political personalities, and much more. Each Dictionary has been compiled by two people--a native of the individual country and an English-speaking collaborator from either Great Britain or the United States. Readers are thus assured of authoritative information that is rendered in terms comprehensible to English-language readers. The Dictionaries will prove invaluable to researchers, librarians, and students.
