Den 22 juli 2011 var Ali Esbati på Utøya för att hålla en föreläsning på AUFs sommarläger. Han blev en av dem som överlevde Anders Behring Breiviks terrorattack. Boken berättar i detalj de dramatiska händelser som visade sig bli den blodigaste terroristattacken i nordisk historia sedan andra världskriget. Terrorattacken var en avsiktlig politisk handling, grundad i en högerextrem ideologi som existerade före attacken och som också lever vidare efter det att gärningsmannen fängslats.
