Yeats in Holland
This book presents a broad survey of the Dutch reception of the work of William Butler Yeats during his lifetime. Yeats' important, wide-ranging oeuvre marks the transition from the nineteenth to the twentieth century. The response to his poetry, drama and prose exemplifies the Dutch reception of English romanticism as well as modernism, and reveals the workings of canon formation. The author has investigated the early days of Dutch Anglistics, showing that teachers of English were of little influence in the Yeats reception. Instead, the Dutch sympathy for the Irish cause and a taste for romantic literature prove to be essential factors in arousing enthusiasm for his early writings. Apart from the well-publicised performances of The Only Jealousy of Emer, Yeats' modern work was given little attention. Although poets like A. Roland Holst, P.N. van Eyck and J.C. Bloem were very well acquainted with Yeats' oeuvre and accumulated impressive collections, reading modern Yeats largely remained a private affair.
Theology and History in the Methodology of Herman Bavinck
Dutch theologian Herman Bavinck (1854--1921) found himself between two eras. The end of the "long nineteenth century" and the experience of World War I marked how much the world around him had changed. The revival of Calvinism in the nineteenth-century Netherlands entailed the neo-Calvinist movement. With Abraham Kuyper, Herman Bavinck became a brand name of neo-Calvinism. Nonetheless, not until the first decade of the twenty-first century was scholarly interest in Bavinck's work increasing. The Journal of Biblical and Theological Studies (JBTS) is an academic journal focused on the fields of Bible and Theology from an inter-denominational point of view. The journal is comprised of an editorial board of scholars that represent several academic institutions throughout the world. JBTS is concerned with presenting high-level original scholarship in an approachable way. Academic journals are often written by scholars for other scholars. They are technical in nature, assuming a robust knowledge of the field. There are fewer journals that seek to introduce biblical and theological scholarship that is also accessible to students. JBTS seeks to provide high-level scholarship and research to both scholars and students, which results in original scholarship that is readable and accessible. As an inter-denominational journal JBTS is broadly evangelical. We accept contributions in all theological disciplines from any evangelical perspective. In particular, we encourage articles and book reviews within the fields of Old Testament, New Testament, Biblical Theology, Church History, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology, Philosophical Theology, Philosophy, and Ethics.

Gisbertus Voetius (1589–1676) on God, Freedom, and Contingency: An Early Modern Reformed Voice is the first study in English entirely devoted to the theology of Voetius, a leading figure of Reformed scholasticism. Andreas J. Beck examines Voetius’s life and his concept of theology. Moreover, he provides a fresh and detailed analysis of Voetius’s views on God, freedom, and contingency in the context of related early modern debates. Special attention is given to transconfessional relations and relevant backgrounds in patristic theology, medieval scholasticism, and the European Reformations. This study also advances our knowledge of scholarly practices in theological education at early modern Reformed universities in the Low Countries.
