London focuses on the four London projects to date by renowned Portuguese artist Pedro Cabrita Reis, at Haunch of Venison and the Frieze Art Fair in 2005, Camden Arts Centre in 2004, and Pearl Projects in 2003. Reis is interested in man's relationship to architecture and the fabricated environments in which we live. The exhibition included three sculptures and a group of five large scale monochrome paintings in sombre dark colours presented behind glass, creating perspectival boxes that reflect the room in which they are sited. On close inspection the monochrome fabric makes its material presence felt and the viewer's gaze flits between seeing their own image and the work's materiality. Included is a conversation between the artist and David Batchelor, and a major new essay by art critic Sarah Kent. Pedro Cabrita Reis (b.1956) represented Portugal at the 2003 Venice Biennale.

Acclaimed London based designers Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby are two of the most innovative design practitioners working in Britain today. Recently chosen to design the Olympic Torch for the London 2012 Games, they engage in many forms of design, from industrial design to architecture.Their collaborative exhibition Ascent, presented eight new pieces (and related drawings) inspired by the structures and engineered forms of moving craft: forms that have, what Barber and Osgerby refer to as 'hidden design'.Interest in these fields originated in their respective childhoods. Osgerby grew up close to a Royal Airforce base in Oxfordshire and spent many hours watching the airplanes flying there. Bar...

Castellani e Castellani is a special exhibition of both new and seminal work by Enrico Castellani, one of Italy's most influential artists. The show features new paintings that continue the dialogue set forth in his formative Angolare series as well as present his critically acclaimed Spazio Ambiente, a roomlike environment from 1970 that has rarely been exhibited publicly, and which is graciously on loan from the Fendi collection.Although created decades apart, the works exemplify Castellani's signature style and merge art, space and architecture to transcend the confines of painting.Formally trained as an architect, Castellani focuses on manipulating the surface configurations of his canvases to alter perceptions of space. In a recent interview with the artist, Hans Ulrich Obrist described Castellani's break from traditionally conceived paintings as 'an epiphany'.Published on the occasion of the exhibition at Hanuch of Venison, New York, 11 November 2011 - 7 January 2012.

"The exhibition takes as its starting point the previous role of 6 Burlington Gardens as the Museum of Mankind. Between 1970 and 1997, the building housed the British Museum's vast ethnographic collections and staged a series of important exhibitions on subjects from the Mexican Day of the Dead to Japanese kites, from Thomas Stanford Raffles to Indonesian shadow plays." -- p. 8 and 11.

Home Lands - Land Marks is an exhibition of new and recent work from seven leading South African artists at Haunch of Venison, London, and the first in London to focus on contemporary South African art since 1995. The publication focuses on images and invocations of landscape which explore contemporary South Africa. Differing from the usual approach to post-apartheid South Africa, the exhibition addresses the complexity of the South African landscape, reflecting upon notions of memory, place and identity, referring to the political context and historical background of South Africa only through the imprint and trace of human experience on the physical landscape. Published on the occasion of the exhibition Home Lands - Land Marks: Contemporary Art from South Africa at Haunch of Venison, London, May - July 2008.

The Haunch of Venison, Salisbury, is an English pub where the over-used adjective 'iconic' is truly justified as a description. It has stood for centuries in the heart of Salisbury (Wiltshire), opposite the Poultry Cross, on the edge of the city's chartered market, and neighbouring the graveyard of St Thomas's Church. Its stuccoed front, sandwiched between two black and white beamed buildings, and its Edwardian pewter-topped bar, are familiar from engravings, paintings and photographs from over the years. But how many people know its history? For whom was the building erected? Who owned it? Who lived there? Who worked there? And who drank there? This book can certainly answer some of those questions. What happened to the real severed hand? Did Churchill visit the pub? Who were some of the celebrities who have frequented it over the years? And do ghosts really exist? Comprehensive A-Z history and description of all aspects of the building, its owners, licensees and distinguished customers.

A cultural history of the first truly modern art market, Marketing Art in the British Isles, 1700 to the Present furthers the burgeoning exploration of Britain's struggle to carve a niche for itself on the international art scene. Bringing together scholars from the UK, US, Europe, and Asia, this collection sheds new light on such crucial notions as the internationalization of the art market; the emergence of an increasingly complex exhibition culture; issues of national rivalry and emulation; artists' individual and collective strategies for their own promotion and survival; the persistent anti-commercialism of an elite group of art lovers and critics and accusations of philistinism levelle...
