But then her firstborn returns, and shares the truth about Myna’s past. Myna has a choice; retrieve her skin and return to the ocean—to the family she never knew and the daughter she's long grieved for, or remain on land with the husband she loves, and the daughter who can never enter the sea.
'How did you find me? Where did you come from?' 'You called me,' he said. 'I called you?' Maggie frowned. 'How?' 'You cried seven tears into the sea.' Grieving the loss of her husband in a boating accident, Maggie inadvertently summons a selkie man who offers comfort the only way he knows how. Nine months later a baby is born, but though Maggie loves him with every inch of her being, his existence isn't enough to drag her from the depths of despair. All Maggie wants is to shed the grief weighing her down. Can she return her son to his father and join the selkies herself? Or will her sorrow send them both over the edge? 'Maggie and the Selkie' is a short story prequel to 'What the Tide Brings'.
This book examines how convicts played a key role in the development of capitalism in Australia and how their active resistance shaped both workplace relations and institutions. It highlights the contribution of convicts to worker mobilization and political descent, forcing a rethink of Australia’s foundational story. It is a book that will appeal to an international audience, as well as the many hundreds of thousands of Australians who can trace descent from convicts. It will enable the latter to make sense of the experience of their ancestors, equipping them with the necessary tools to understand convict and court records. It will also provide a valuable undergraduate and postgraduate teaching tool and reference for those studying unfree labour and worker history, social history, colonization and global migration in a digital age.
Meg was raised to do her duty as the youngest daughter of the king. But when he unexpectedly ties her to the northern nation and then dies, the kingdom assumes she will replace him as the Raven Crown. With the entire world watching and waiting for something to happen, her eldest sister makes decisions as though she is queen. And as her cousins hope for a share of the power, Meg prays her faith is enough to maintain her sense of duty. As Meg’s hair remains resolutely white, the people wonder what her sisters will do to prove themselves more suitable, or remove the competition. An attack on one sister puts another in danger, and Meg doesn’t know who she can trust. Is her faith in the gods to choose wisely just a naïve girl’s dream? Or are the gods more involved than she imagined, and what could they want? Raven’s Dawn is an exciting start to the Raven Crown Series. If you like magic, a temple full of gods and a dash of political intrigue, then you will love Georgina Makalani’s series.

You'll see all types of the family corvidae in here: Ravens (of course), blue jays, choughs, magpies, lots and lots of crows, and even some alien corvids. The corvids are main characters and supporting players; they're messengers, friends, and antagonists; they provide atmosphere and ambiance; and in some cases they're the metaphor that ties the story together. Our authors have given us a great selection of science fiction, fantasy, humor, and horror. This anthology has been created to raise money for RavenCon, a convention that's been forced to cancel twice due to COVID-19.
Jeffrey Lee Salmons fought the battle of Ewing's sarcoma cancer for five years, October 1984 until August 25, 1989. Jeff and his mother travelled back and forth to the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland for treatment and spent many days in the hospital. Jeff had a peace and strength that only comes from God and trusting in Him, and that is what Jeff did all those years! The doctors and nurses always said when they came into Jeff's hospital room, "It feels different in this room. There is a peace." But we were already aware of that. Jeff, all through the pain, the tears, the fear and distress, fought long and hard but was never alone! Jeff lived his life to the fullest, continuing with his high school football team as manager when he could no longer play. Jeff never gave up and never complained! He faced his battle with cancer with so much strength and faith. He was a very special young man and an inspiration to all who knew him. Jeff's favorite Bible verse: "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13:5)
