Progress in Biomass and Bioenergy Production
Alternative energy sources have become a hot topic in recent years. The supply of fossil fuel, which provides about 95 percent of total energy demand today, will eventually run out in a few decades. By contrast, biomass and biofuel have the potential to become one of the major global primary energy source along with other alternate energy sources in the years to come. A wide variety of biomass conversion options with different performance characteristics exists. Fact-Finding without Facts
Fact-Finding Without Facts explores international criminal fact-finding - empirically, conceptually, and normatively. After reviewing thousands of pages of transcripts from various international criminal tribunals, the author reveals that international criminal trials are beset by numerous and severe fact-finding impediments that substantially impair the tribunals' ability to determine who did what to whom. These fact-finding impediments have heretofore received virtually no publicity, let alone scholarly treatment, and they are deeply troubling not only because they raise grave concerns about the accuracy of the judgments currently being issued but because they can be expected to similarly impair the next generation of international trials that will be held at the International Criminal Court. After setting forth her empirical findings, the author considers their conceptual and normative implications. The author concludes that international criminal tribunals purport a fact-finding competence that they do not possess and, as a consequence, base their judgments on a less precise, more amorphous method of fact-finding than they publicly acknowledge.

Por trás de todas as dificuldades de um Brasil sem indústrias de base no cenário das ferrovias e pontes estava um engenheiro determinado e empreendedor. Im Mittelpunkt des Buches steht die Frage, ob sich im Zuge der Globalisierung neoliberale und Managementprinzipien in den Industrieunternehmen Brasiliens etablieren. Unter Rückgriff auf quantitative und qualitative Methoden wird empirisch untersucht, inwiefern Veränderungen im Karriereverlauf der Topmanager zu einem Wandel ihrer Wert- und Handlungsorientierungen beitragen. Es wird aufgezeigt, welche Selektionsmechanismen die Herausbildung der brasilianischen Wirtschaftselite begünstigen und auf welche Deutungsmuster diese bei der Bewältigung von Führungssituationen zurückgreift. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Sozialisation der Manager in der Organisation und das spezifische institutionelle Arrangement Brasiliens maßgeblich die managerielle Handlung der Wirtschaftselite prägen.
