The King's Business Requires Haste, Henry Beets (1869-1947) and the Promotion of Mission Consciousness in the Christian Reformed Church of North America
The origins of Henry Beets' passion for missions, the means by which he promoted missions in the CRC, and the key elements of his mission thought are considered. His conversion experience as a young immigrant and the influence of those who led him to Christ made him consider missionary service among the unreached, but he felt called to a path that led him to positions of denominational leadership. In his efforts to develop a greater mission consciousness in the CRC, Beets relied on a variety of arguments and emphasized a business like approach to the work of missions. In so doing be promoted a view of missions that was very much in step with developments in the American context. In the end, Beets' work testifies to the impact of the American environment on the development of mission awareness in the CRC.
