mRNA (messenger RNA) is the mediating template between DNA and proteins. The information from a particular gene is transferred from a strand of DNA by the construction of a complementary strand of RNA through a process known as transcription. Next three nucleotide segments of RNA, called tRNA (transfer RNA), which are attached to specific amino acids, match up with the template strand of mRNA to order the amino acids correctly. These amino acids are then bonded together to form a protein. This process called translation, occurs in the ribosome, which is composed of proteins and the third kind of RNA, rRNA (ribosomal RNA). This book presents new research in the field.
This text aims to shed light on the country's rapid industrialization and internationalization by looking at questions such as: Can China sustain its accelerated rate of growth? and Can labor supply be sustained at a relatively low wage rate?
"This book analyses the impact of diverse intellectual property rights (IPR) regimes upon the development process". -- PAGE [1].
Most therapeutics available today are highly toxic, very expensive and exhibit minimum efficacy. The issue of toxicity is even more critical for prevention than for therapy because the former involves normal subjects. Thus, therapeutics that are safe and affordable are needed for both prevention and therapy. Spices of Southeast Asian origin, once employed for taste, appearance and preservation of food, now appear to have therapeutic value for humans. What the active principles in these spices are and how they mediate their effect against various diseases are beginning to emerge from extensive research carried out within the last half-century. The current monograph is an attempt to address the active constituents, their molecular targets and the therapeutic uses of these spices.
This book provides an example of the successful and rapid expansion of bioengineering within the world of the science. It includes a core of studies on bioengineering technology applications so important that their progress is expected to improve both human health and ecosystem. These studies provide an important update on technology and achievements in molecular and cellular engineering as well as in the relatively new field of environmental bioengineering. The book will hopefully attract the interest of not only the bioengineers, researchers or professionals, but also of everyone who appreciates life and environmental sciences.
A practical overview of a full rangeof approaches to discovering, selecting, and producing biotechnology-derived drugs The Handbook of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology helps pharmaceutical scientists develop biotech drugs through a comprehensive framework that spans the process from discovery, development, and manufacturing through validation and registration. With chapters written by leading practitioners in their specialty areas, this reference: Provides an overview of biotechnology used in the drug development process Covers extensive applications, plus regulations and validation methods Features fifty chapters covering all the major approaches to the challenge of identifying, producing, and formulating new biologically derived therapeutics With its unparalleled breadth of topics and approaches, this handbook is a core reference for pharmaceutical scientists, including development researchers, toxicologists, biochemists, molecular biologists, cell biologists, immunologists, and formulation chemists. It is also a great resource for quality assurance/assessment/control managers, biotechnology technicians, and others in the biotech industry.
The future growth and development of Asia ? the most dynamic economic region in the world today ? will have important implications for the rest of the global economy. This book offers a futuristic perspective of a wide array of developmental challenges and opportunities facing Asian economies over the next two decades. The future is approached from several different developmental paradigms including technological change and innovation, regional cooperation within Asia and between Asia and the West, poverty reduction, ethics and corruption, and environmental challenges. Future prospects for the two giant economies of China and India are also explored. By offering a comprehensive look at the medium-term future of Asia from such a wide range of different viewpoints, this fascinating book will interest economists, social scientists, politicians, international investment managers and the general public alike.
