Asian Economic Cooperation in the New Millennium

' This volume is the outgrowth of a conference held at Peking University in May 2002, jointly sponsored by the American Committee on Asian Economic Studies, the Peking University School of Economics, and the China Reform Forum. The contributors include leading scholars from Asia as well as specialists on Asia from the US, Europe, and Australia. The book delves into issues of trade and investment, exchange rates and macroeconomic policy, and preferential trade agreements and other forms of economic cooperation. The overall message is one of regional dynamism animated by concerted efforts to build a favorable institutional environment. China is a great motivating force in this dynamism and a k...

Woody Oil Crops: Key Trait Formation and Regulation

Woody oil crops are perennial crops producing fruits or seeds with high oil contents, such as oil olive, oil Camellia, walnut et al. Woody oil crops usually distribute in lands not suitable for herbaceous oil crops and therefore serve as important supplement to herbaceous oil crop production. Many woody oil crops are famous for special fatty acid composition (e.g. high oleic acid content in olive and Camellia oil) and rich healthy components in fruits or seeds. Key traits of woody oil crops are essential for breeding and production, such as fruit/seed yield, size, weight, oil content, fatty acid and other valuable compositions, tolerance to drought, cold, and low nutrition stresses. Compared...

Messenger RNA Research Perspectives

mRNA (messenger RNA) is the mediating template between DNA and proteins. The information from a particular gene is transferred from a strand of DNA by the construction of a complementary strand of RNA through a process known as transcription. Next three nucleotide segments of RNA, called tRNA (transfer RNA), which are attached to specific amino acids, match up with the template strand of mRNA to order the amino acids correctly. These amino acids are then bonded together to form a protein. This process called translation, occurs in the ribosome, which is composed of proteins and the third kind of RNA, rRNA (ribosomal RNA). This book presents new research in the field.

Dietary Components and Immune Function

Dietary Components and Immune Function focuses on immune modulation, immune mediated disease resistance, immune changes due to AIDS, immune modulated cancer therapy, and autoimmune diseases as modified by dietary supplement, bioactive foods and supplements. The potential value of such approaches in maintaining wellness and preventing disease are addressed by examining their effects in vitro and in vivo on innate and adaptive immune responses. Emerging fields of science and important discoveries relating to early stages of new nutriceuticals in cancer prevention, prior to clinical trials are also covered. This volume represents a single source of material related to nutriceuticals and their constituents as they relate to cancer therapy and prevention. As such the book will be essential reading for nutritionists, pharmacologists, health care professionals, research scientists, cancer workers, pathologists, molecular or cellular biochemists, physicians, general practitioners as well as those interested in diet and nutrition in disease resistance via immune regulation.

Proceedings of the 2023 5th International Conference on Structural Seismic and Civil Engineering Research (ICSSCER 2023)

This is an open access book.As society progresses and the city scale increases, architecture is diversifying and becoming complex, with structures transforming from simple structures into high-rise, long-span and even special and complex structures. Architecture is where people live and work, so its security must be ensured. However, the architectural structure is likely to be destroyed by natural disasters (earthquakes, wind, snow, rain), man-made faults and incidents (explosion, fire, crashes) and accidental events like attacks and man-made sabotage in recent years. Therefore, countries have endeavored to improve architectural security for many years. A large number of anti-seismic issues ...
