This proceedings volume contains a selection of papers presented at the symposium "International Conference on High Performance Scientific Computing'' held at the Hanoi Institute of Mathematics of the Vietnam National Center for Natural Science and Technology (NCST), March 10-14, 2003. The conference has been organized by the Hanoi Institute of Mathematics, SFB 359 ''Reactive Flows, Transport and Diffusion'', Heidelberg, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR), Heidelberg. The contributions cover the broad interdisciplinary spectrum of scientific computing and present recent advances in theory, development of methods, and applications in practice. Subjects covered are mathematical modelling, numerical simulation, methods for optimization and optimal control, parallel computing, symbolic computing, software development, applications of scientific computing in physics, chemistry, biology and mechanics, environmental and hydrology problems, transport, logistics and site location, communication networks, production scheduling, industrial and commercial problems.
This volume constitutes the refereed post-conference proceedings of the 26th IFIP WG 1.5 International Workshop on Cellular Automata and Discrete Complex Systems, AUTOMATA 2020, held in Stockholm, Sweden, in August 2020. The workshop was held virtually. The 11 full papers presented in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 21 submissions. The topics of the conference include dynamical, topological, ergodic and algebraic aspects of CA and DCS, algorithmic and complexity issues, emergent properties, formal languages, symbolic dynamics, tilings, models of parallelism and distributed systems, timing schemes, synchronous versus asynchronous models, phenomenological descriptions, scientific modeling, and practical applications.
The volume LNCS 8155 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 19th International Workshop on Cellular Automata and Discrete Complex Systems, AUTOMATA 2013, held in Giessen, Germany, in September 2013. The 8 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 26 submissions. The scope of the workshop spans the following areas the theoretical and practical aspects of a permanent, international, multidisciplinary forum for the collaboration of researchers in the field of Cellular Automata (CA) and Discrete Complex Systems (DCS), to provide a platform for presenting and discussing new ideas and results, to support the development of theory and applications of CA and DCS (e.g. parallel computing, physics, biology, social sciences, and others) as long as fundamental aspects and their relations are concerned, to identify and study within an inter- and multidisciplinary context, the important fundamental aspects, concepts, notions and problems concerning CA and DCS.
Unconventional computing is a field of advanced computer science, which general goal might be summarised as the quest for both new groundbreaking algorithms and physical implementations of novel and ultimately more powerful - compared to classical approaches - computing paradigms and machines. This volume brings together work that especially focuses on experimental prototypes and genuine implementations of non-classical computing devices. A further goal was to revisit existing approaches in unconventional computing, to provide scientists and engineers with blue-prints of realisable computing devices, and to take a critical glance at the design of novel and emergent computing systems to point out failures and shortcomings of both theoretical and experimental approaches.

The book presents one of the most emergent areas in natural computing, cellular automaton (CA). CA is a paradigm of uniform fine-grained parallel computation which has been explored to understand complex systems by developing its model at the microscopic level. This book constitutes the proceedings of the 29th IFIP WG 1.5 International Workshop on Cellular Automata and Discrete Complex Systems, AUTOMATA 2023, which took place in Trieste, Italy, in August/September 2023. This book contains all full papers presented at ACRI 2000, the Fourth International Conference on Cellular Automata for Research and Industry, held at the University of Karlsruhe (Germany), 4 - 6 October, 2000. The continuation of and growing interest in research on Cellular Automata models for real world phenomena indicates the feasibility of this approach.
