The Mispronuciation of Who. is a suspenseful observation of a contemporary playwright retreating from his society. He tries to live the life of a recluse in a small coastal village, where the villagers possess a lighter-than-air, floating-away mentality not unlike the high-desert mind of the southwest. This is the story of an artist, the friends he makes in the village, and the friend who follows him there.

Here we have a quirky city guy who sleeps in trees, not always the same tree. He moves around, from place to place. What is he doing? Thinking. Call it philosophic introspection. All the time he is thinking, ruminating, examining his self, his thoughts, and his world. Friends find him, talk to him, know him and much of his history; yet he recognizes no one. Or at the least, tries very hard not to acknowledge his history with them. He avoids remembering having a name-which is Jolty Jone to everyone else-because by avoiding his name, he can avoid remembering the life that goes along with that name. Jolty wants privacy and solitude and time to think, to create, to understand, and to laugh at the absurdities of life.

She is Dan Butxn, the dreamer who rose from the sand and rocks to see the wind, a human with no where to go. This is Dan who heeds Dot's words. Painting is simple: The hand applies the paint while the mind watches. Dot dies (after a violent disagreement with Dan), and Dan moves into Dot's studio, once Willa's studio. Dan learns to paint, and art quickly replaces/displaces her need for human contact. But why are people who know Dan dying? Or disappearing and then dying? And who's sending all the weird messages to her machine? And who's burning down houses? And why do Dan's feelings about the world around her remain so vague? And who reappears in a lump of light to pull Dan safely back down to earth? Can this savior be trusted? Read for love of language, language that borders on fatalist poetry.
