Reede These

A feast of short stories that are both interesting and diverse. From adventures in the Australian bush, to every day mundane topics that are heart warming and yet at the same time very exciting. Some of the tales are quite alarming but they all have a happy ending, and at times the stories give the reader an in-depth look at some unusual adventures. Diving with sharks, a child act on the ‘Tivoli’ (A past venue of vaudeville in Melbourne, Australia) this is a true story about the year of 1953, another true story of two teenage boys who had to go grape-picking when men were away at the war in 1943, the tale of seven runaways from a boy’s home, many fictitious adventures of children in various situations, even a medical story of a Rugby player etcetera. There are a few adult stories with no children involved but they are suitable reading for children too. Give yourself a break and relax with a good Reede.

Klotz perishes instantly, but Delumi survives. Delumi wanders for days without food and water, only to be found by an Aborigine youth, who brings her to his home of the Ballagalla Tribe. The gracious people help her recover, and she eventually returns home. Delumi is grateful to Wally (short for Wallaballagalla) and the tribe for helping her to survive the ordeal in the desert. As she returns to work at KHII, she must overcome many challenges to make sure the company survives, but she does not forget the kindness of the tribe in the desert.

In A Grammar of Murui (Bue), Katarzyna Wojtylak provides the first complete description of Murui, an endangered Witotoan language, spoken by the Murui-Muina (Witoto) people from Colombia and Peru. The grammar is written from a functional and typological perspective, using natural language data gathered during several fieldtrips to the Caquetá-Putumayo region between 2013 and 2017. The many remarkable characteristics of Murui include a complex system of classifiers, differential subject and object marking, person-marking verb morphology, evidential and epistemic marking, head-tail linkage, and a system of numerals, including the fraternal (brother-based) forms for ‘three’ and ‘four’. The grammar represents an important contribution to the study of Witotoan languages, linguistic typology of Northwest Amazonia, and language contact in the area.
