Free Electron Lasers 2000

The 22nd International Free Electron Laser Conference and 7th FEL User Workshop were held August 13-18, 2000 at Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club in Durham, North Carolina, USA. The conference and the workshop were hosted by Duke University's Free Electron laser (FEL) Laboratory. Following tradition, the FEL prize award was announced at the banquet. The year 2000 FEL prize was awarded to three scientists propelling the limits of high power FELs: Steven Benson, Eisuke Minehara and George Neill. The conference program was comprised of traditional oral sessions on First Lasing, FEL theory, storage ring FELs, linac and high power FELs, long wavelength FELs, SASE FELs, accelerator and FEL physics...

The Physics and Applications of High Brightness Electron Beams

This book contains the contributions to the Workshop on the Physics and Applications of High Brightness Electron Beams, held in July 2002 in Sardinia, Italy. This workshop had a broad international representation from the fields of intense electron sources, free-electron lasers, advanced accelerators, and ultra-fast laser-plasma, beam-plasma and laser-beam physics. The interdisciplinary participants were brought together to discuss advances in the creation and understanding of ultra-fast, ultra-high brightness electron beams, and the unique experimental opportunities in frontier high-energy-density and radiation-source physics which are offered by these scientific tools. The proceedings have been selected for coverage in: OCo Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings- (ISTP- / ISI Proceedings)OCo Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings (ISTP CDROM version / ISI Proceedings)"

  • Publisher: CRC Press

This timely handbook contains chapters on the essential elements of high resolution charged particle optics and is written by many of the world's leading research scientists. It is a complete guide to understanding, designing, and using high resolution instrumentation such as transmission electron microscopes (TEMs), scanning electron microscopes (SEMs), scanning transmission electron microscopes (STEMs), and focused ion beam (FIB) systems. This handbook is evenly balanced between theory and application, and covers all the most important topics in this growing area. Handbook of High Resolution Charged Particle Optics explains how and why high resolution instruments work and how to apply this information when designing or using them.

Shows how nonlinear phenomena play a more and more important role for everybody using the laser "as a tool," making it unique in this respect. Provides a basic knowledge of modern lasers, as well as the principles of nonlinear optical spectroscopy (and an exhaustive list of 4000 references) From first-edition reviews: "Almost a handbook, reviewing in a single author's voice the basic properties of light and its linear and nonlinear interactions with matter, both in the absence and in the presence of absorption."
