Titanium in Medical and Dental Applications

Titanium in Medical and Dental Applications is an essential reference book for those involved in biomedical materials and advanced metals. Written by well-known experts in the field, it covers a broad array of titanium uses, including implants, instruments, devices, the manufacturing processes used to create them, their properties, corrosion resistance and various fabrication approaches. Biomedical titanium materials are a critically important part of biomaterials, especially in cases where non-metallic biomedical materials are not suited to applications, such as the case of load-bearing implants. The book also covers the use of titanium for implants in the medical and dental fields and reviews the use of titanium for medical instruments and devices. Provides an understanding of the essential and broad applications of Titanium in both the medical and dental industries Discusses the pathways to manufacturing titanium into critical biomedical and dental devices Includes insights into further applications within the industry

Nanostructure Control of Materials

The ability to measure and manipulate matter on the nanometer level is making possible a new generation of materials with enhanced mechanical, optical, transport and magnetic properties. This important book summarises key developments in nanotechnology and their impact on the processing of metals, polymers, composites and ceramics. After a brief introduction, a number of chapters discuss the practical issues involved in the commercial production and use of nanomaterials. Other chapters review ways of nanoengineering steel, aluminium and titanium alloys. Elsewhere the book discusses the use of nanoengineered metal hydrides to store hydrogen as an energy source, and the development of nanopolym...

The world production of primary and recycled aluminum continues to increase and, over the past twenty years, has risen from 1̃5 Mt/y in 1985 to 3̃2 Mt/y in 2005. The main consumers are transportation, beverage and other packaging, and building construction. The global primary aluminum production has been growing by about 2-3% per year. However, growth rates over the last decade have been much higher. In particular, during the past five years, China has played a critical role in aluminum production and has gone through a dramatic period of growth. The specific topics considered include: Alloys and Phase Transformations, Corrosion and Surface Modification, Deformation and Formability, Fatigue, Fracture and Creep, Joining Technologies, New Directions, Novel Experimental Techniques, Processing and Process Modelling, Recovery, Recrystallization and Texture, Solidification and Casting. Overall, this collection of papers represents a seminal history of the state of knowledge in the aluminum industry, related to the processing and properties of aluminum alloys and, as such, will further contribute to this basic field of knowledge.
