Catalan Gastronomic Heritage and its Cuisine
This publication by Dr. Antoni Riera Melis and Dr. Joan Santanach presents a bibliographic tour through the history of Catalan cuisine on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the first edition of the Llibre del coc, attributed to Master Robert, chef to King Ferdinand of Naples, and printed in Barcelona at the press of Carles Amorós in the year 1520. This work enjoyed great success and has had more than half a dozen editions in Catalan and a dozen in Spanish with the title: Libro de guisados. The Biblioteca de Catalunya holds a very rich bibliographic collection on gastronomy and this work shows a taste of the documentation that can be found there. The book contains interviews with specialists in the field who provide a multifaceted vision of gastronomy, among which are Salvador Capdevila, Narcís Comadira, Laura Conde, Jesús Contreras Hernández, Toni Massanés and Carme Ruscalleda. The book concludes with an extensive bibliography and a list of digital resources that contribute to the research and understanding of the Catalan gastronomic heritage.

Between Regulation and Freedom
This volume contains selected essays which together re-frame the roles of guilds in medieval and early modern European cities. They focus on the different ways in which we can understand the interfaces between regulatory frameworks, represented by guild and civic regulations, and the wider world of labour and production. Through case studies of single cities, economic sectors, and of territories, they address a range of questions about the operation of labour markets, the nature of guild regulation within and outside guild jurisdictions, and the interaction between ‘regulation’ and ‘freedom’ as expressed in legislation and in the organization of production and distribution. In doing so, they offer a means to compare and contrast experiences across Europe and the circumstances which determined and altered economic structures and, in turn, political and social structures in cities.

IIT MMAE Dept. Research Project the Homogeneous Charge Thermal Ignition (HCTI) Engine
Nowadays the main kinds of engines that are used in ground transportation are, gasoline Spark Ignition engines and diesel Compression Ignition engines. As every day more fuel is being used by a growing number of vehicles, fuel dependency growth and a growing concern for our environment health, it is a crucial point to gain in fuel efficiency for ground transportation engines. Many approaches are being investigated, but we will focus in one kind that we call the HCTI, homogeneous charge thermal ignition engine. The goal with this new kind of ignition is to increase engine efficiency both by igniting the mixture using a much bigger surface that a spark plug kernel would be, thus lowering pumping losses, and also by burning leaner mixtures that are thermodynamically more efficient with a reticulated ceramic matrix, something that couldn't be possible with SI because such lean mixtures wouldn't burn with a spark plug. In this paper an SI engine will be monitored and also the same version of the HCTI to try to determine if there are gains in efficiency according to the theory.
La Societat Obrera de Tivissa
Aquest llibre estudia els orígens de la Societat Obrera de Tivissa, tot intentant explicar les causes materials i ideològiques que van portar un grup de pagesos a unir-se, a principis del segle XX, per tal de millorar la seva precària existència i defensar els seus drets i interessos. Una associació d'aquest tipus, molt influenciada pel republicanisme i pel socialisme, va adquirir des de bon principi un caràcter reivindicatiu que no va tardar a entrar en conflicte amb les classes benestants de Tivissa i els seus defensors. L'enfrontament entre els pagesos organitzats en la Societat Obrera i els seus opositors serà constant i, en més d'una ocasió, esclatarà amb una violència extrema. Com a rerefons d'aquestes lluites, hi trobarem les transformacions que s'havien produït en l'estructura de la propietat agrícola, la lluita per les terres comunals i la crisi que patia el sistema polític de la Restauració. El treball, basat en la documentació que encara avui dia es conserva i en la recerca en diversos i variats arxius i biblioteques, s'inscriu dins els estudis de l'associacionisme agrari català de principis del segle XX.
La repressió franquista a la Ribera d'Ebre (1938-1945)
En aquest llibre, l'autor, amb un criteri imparcial, tracta d'introduir-se en el context dels represaliats de la comarca en temps del franquisme; la qual cosa, per motius diversos, fins avui no havia estat possible. La consulta dels expedients li ha donat una visió més realista dels fets, que sovint eren distorsionats. La tasca d'investigació ha estat lenta i feixuga; els entrebancs per accedir a les fonts documentals sembla que a poc a poc se superen. Les diverses acusacions que sofriren els encausats han estat el fil conductor dels guanyadors, que, moltes vegades, sense escoltar les opinions dels "perdedors", els jutjaren i, en els casos extrems, els condemnaren a la pena capital. És molt difícil dir qui tenia raó. L'autor afirma que de cada encausat en concret es podria portar a terme un extens treball. Esperem que el temps, que tot ho cura, posi cada situació al lloc que li pertoca.
