In the opening chapter of Imines: An Overview, attempts will be made to provide a brief survey of di-imines derived from benzil hydrazones through imine chemistry. Imines are compounds containing an azomethine linkage C=N connected to hydrogen or carbon atoms.Possible reaction mechanisms of benzocyclonhexanone oximes and p-quinone monoimines with Lawesson's and tris(dimethylamino)phosphine reagents are considered in chapter two, and the structural assignments are based on spectroscopic data and x-ray analysis.Three catalogues of imine gels are discussed in the penultimate chapter, namely gels of discrete imine molecules, gels of imine polymers assembled from small molecular precursors and gels of imine polymers assembled from polymer precursors. The structure of penicillin was determined by X-ray in 1945, and the first total synthesis was then reported by Sheehan and Henery-Logan. A brief history of the structure of penicillin is presented in the final chapter, with emphasis on recent progress.

Synthesis of Azetidines from Imines by Cycloaddition Reactions presents several methodologies for the synthesis of azetidines from imines by cycloaddition reactions. The azetidines, known as important contribution of science to humanity, are important organic compounds that have occupied a basic position in the pharmaceutical chemistry for over a hundred years because of their biological activities. They are the fundamental skeleton of several antibiotics, probiotics and alkaloids. The synthesis of azetidines is a constant challenge for medicinal chemists, hence this book comprehensively describes azetidine ring synthesis. With this book, readers will be able to quickly assess possible synthetic approaches and evaluate whether preparation of a four-membered nitrogen containing ring is reasonable. Highlights cycloaddition reactions of imines Covers the synthesis of azetidines

The smallest possible saturated azaheterocycle, aziridine, is well-known to organic chemists for its tremendous potential in pharmaceutical chemistry and organic synthesis. The general biological importance of aziridines is proven by the fact that they found several uses as subunits in pharmacologically active compounds such as antitumor agents, enzyme inhibitors, and antibiotics. Although aziridines are highly reactive, this framework occurs in many synthetic compounds and the natural products of biological interest also contain aziridine skeleton in their structures. The synthetic community is captivated with prospects of selective synthesis and conversions of aziridines. Several important...

Synthetic and Mechanistic Investigations of Iridium-Catalysed Imine Hydrogenation

The goal of this doctoral thesis was to gain a better understanding of the reaction course in imine hydrogenation as well as to develop an efficient protocol for the iridium-catalysed asymmetric hydrogenation of aliphatic imines. In the course of these studies, cyclometalation of a chiral imine to an achiral iridium complex generated a chiral catalyst. The structure of the cyclometalated imine was demonstrated to influence the enantioselectivity of the catalyst as well as to be involved in the enantiodiscriminating step of the hydrogenation. The iridacycles were investigated in further detail by two-dimensional NMR studies and their preparation was improved by counterion metathesis. Deuteriu...
