Buddha of Infinite Light

Shin is the uniquely Japanese flowering of the type of Buddhism known as "Pure Land." It originated in the thirteenth century with the charismatic and prophetic figure Shinran (1172–1263), whose interpretation of the traditional Pure Land teachings was extremely influential in his own lifetime and remain so today. In a period when Japanese Buddhism was dominated by an elitist monastic establishment, Shinran's Shin teaching became a way of liberation for all people, regardless of age, class, or gender. Although Shin is one of Japan's greatest religious contributions—and is still the most widely practiced form of Buddhism in Japan—it remains little known in the West. In this book, based on several lectures he gave in the 1950s, D. T. Suzuki illuminates the deep meaning of Shin and its rich archetypal imagery, providing a scholarly and affectionate introduction to this sometimes misunderstood tradition of Buddhist practice.

FULL COLOR EDITION. Liane France, a lifelong metaphysician and seeker of a more profound spirituality, illuminates 8 primal facets of the true nature of God: Source, Truth, Law, Life, Mind, Soul, Love, Spirit. Built on the enlightenment and revelation of the ages, both ancient and new, she assures readers that each has has an innate, direct, immediate, individual, intimate, indissoluble, eternal relationship with God; that we are always one with God by reflection; and that this is a bond that can never be broken. Few would argue that our world is in need of much healing, individually and collectively, if humankind is to survive on this planet. Whether in a sense of one's own worth and purpos...

Since the early 1960s, James Turrell has used light and space as his primary mediums. His site-specific artworks, from the ambitious and on-going Roden Crater, a natural cinder volcano situated in the Arizona desert which Turrell is transforming into a naked-eye observatory, to his Skyspace series, make manifest the physical presence of light and heighten the viewer's visual perception. This unique, limited edition, case-bound publication, signed by the artist, printed on archival paper, and with 14 individual color plates suitable for framing, provides an overview of both of these projects as well as Turrell's room-size light works in which forms seem to float in air and spaces gradually fill with mysterious light. The color and materials used to fabricate James Turrell: Infinite Light reflect the natural texture and palette of Roden Crater, and iconic symbols related to the crater's underground chambers are embossed and die-cut into the folios of each section.

Peaceful Death, Joyful Rebirth

Buddhism teaches that death can be a springboard to enlightenment—yet for all but the most advanced meditators, it will be the gateway to countless future lives of suffering in samsara. Tulku Thondup wrote this guide to help us heal our fear and confusion about death and strengthen our practice in anticipation of this transition, and to help us realize the enlightened goal of ultimate peace and joy—not only for death and rebirth, but for this very lifetime. In simple language, he distills a vast range of sources, including scriptures, classic commentaries, oral teachings, and firsthand accounts. The book includes: • An overview of the dying process, the after-death bardo states, and te...

Kabbalah and Meditation for the Nations

Ours is the first generation in modern times to understand the truly universal human condition and to seek to bring all peoples of the earth together in peace and harmony. We are the first generation to truly understand that we are faced with the challenge of either inhabiting our planet harmoniously or not inhabiting it at all. Filling our future is the fundamentalism that threatens to pit one religion against another. But, our different relationships and understandings of G-d should not be the reason for conflict but the source of goodwill in building our relationships with one another and our ability to understand others. The covenant with the Jewish people was not the first made between ...
