Culture as the Core
This volume presents the very important issue of integrating culture into the second language classroom. Some of its chapters were originally presented at two symposia on culture learning, Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Culture learning in the Second Language Curriculum, held at the University of Minnesota in 1991 and 1994. Other chapters were developed at a third conference, Culture as the Core: Transforming the Language Curriculum. The latter brought scholars and practitioners together to reflect on the earlier theoretical discussions, refine those ideas in light of subsequent theoretical developments, and translate theory into classroom practice.

Unpacking Your Study Abroad Experience
Colleges and universities are in competition to claim leadership in preparing students for a global world through participation in international experiences. Michigan State University (MSU) is often recognized as one of the leaders in study abroad, having woven the ethos of global education tightly into the core fabric of the university and sending more undergraduate students on study abroad annually than any other U.S. university. This brief shares the findings from the authors' early research and how it led to the development and delivery of their "Unpacking Your Study Abroad Experiences" seminars for returning study abroad participants. The process they use is highlighted and they share some of the stories they have unpacked to illustrate the reframing of their experiences during the briefing. Transnational Migrations in the Asia-Pacific
This edited collection interrogates the diversity of transnational migration experiences in the Asia-Pacific through the lens of digital ethnography in order to explore the transformative effects digital media plays in these experiences. While there has been work on the various ways in which internet communication technologies (ICTs) particularly mobile communication allows for various forms of connectivity between individuals and groups in this age of hyper (transnational) mobility, there is a scarcity on the way digital media presents challenges, creates agency and alters relationships within the broad umbrella of the transnational migration experience. The authors in this collection– who come from diverse disciplinary backgrounds across social, cultural, education and communication research – present cutting edge cross and trans disciplinary analyses of transnational migration where digital media becomes a creative, if not fundamental avenue, for migrants to develop new strategies for dealing with their cross-border mobilities.
