Input-Output Economics

Input-Output Economics

This collection of writings provides the only comprehensive introduction to the input-output model for which Leontief was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1973. The structural approach to economics developed by Leontief, and known as input-output analysis, paved the way for the transformation of economics into a truly empirical discipline that could utilize modern data processing technology. This thoroughly revised second edition includes twenty essays--twelve of which are new to this edition--that reflect the past developments and the present state of the field. Beginning with an introductory chapter, the book leads the reader into an understanding of the input-output approach--not only as formal theory but also as a research strategy and powerful tool for dealing with a complex modern economy.

Input-Output Analysis

This edition of a classic textbook is an essential reference for students and scholars in the input-output research and applications community. New topics covered include SAMs (and extended input-output models) and their connection to input-output data, structural decomposition analysis (SDA), multiplier decompositions, identifying important coefficients, and international input-output models.

Handbook of Input–Output Analysis

In this authoritative Handbook, leading experts from international statistical offices and universities explain in detail the treatment and role of input-output statistics in the System of National Accounts. Furthermore, they address the derivation of input-output coefficients for the purpose of economic and environmental modeling, the building of applied general equilibrium models, the use of these models for efficiency analysis, and the extensions to stochastic and dynamic input-output analysis. As well as revealing and exploring the theoretical foundations, the Handbook also acts as a useful guide for practitioners.

The Economics of Input-Output Analysis

The Economics of Input-Output Analysis

Input-output analysis is the main tool of applied equilibrium analysis. This textbook provides a systematic survey of the most recent developments in input-output analysis and their applications, helping us to examine questions such as: which industries are competitive? What are the multiplier effects of an investment program? How do environmental restrictions impact on prices? Linear programming and national accounting are introduced and used to resolve issues such as the choice of technique, the comparative advantage of a national economy, its efficiency and dynamic performance. Technological and environmental spillovers are analysed, both at the national level (between industries) and the international level (the measurement of globalisation effects). The book is self-contained, but assumes some familiarity with calculus, matrix algebra, and the microeconomic principle of optimizing behaviour. Exercises and review questions are included at the end of each chapter, and solutions at the end of the book.

Input-Output Analysis and the Structure of Income Distribution

The purpose of this study is in keeping with the shift in concern over the eco nomic problems of growth to those of income distribution in recent years. Income distribution problems may be analyzed by not only the traditional procedures, but also by some extensions of the input-output technique as I shall demonstrate in this volume of the Lecture Notes. Some fruitful results are obtained by applying the extended input-output technique to income analysis as well as to output analysis. This volume consists of three parts. These parts may be viewed along two veins, with some overlapping unavoidable: (1) Parts One and Two contain extensions of the input-output analysis and (2) Parts One and Thre...

"The international fragmentation of current production processes has led to an explosion of trade in intermediate products, indirectly impacting jobs, income, resources, energy, and emissions. Much of what is consumed is produced via global value chains contributing to climate change via carbon dioxide emissions. The editors analyse the complex interdependent international production structures and their links to social inequality and the environment, which has led to a demand for international input-output tables. Including an original introduction the new volumes comprehensively present research that has advanced the state of the art in input-output analysis over the past two decades"--

Input-Output Analysis

This edition of Ronald Miller and Peter Blair's classic textbook is an essential reference for students and scholars in the input-output research and applications community. The book has been fully revised and updated to reflect important developments in the field since its original publication. New topics covered include SAMs (and extended input-output models) and their connection to input-output data, structural decomposition analysis (SDA), multiplier decompositions, identifying important coefficients, and international input-output models. A major new feature of this edition is that it is also supported by an accompanying website with solutions to all problems, wide-ranging real-world data sets, and appendices with further information for more advanced readers. Input-Output Analysis is an ideal introduction to the subject for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in a wide variety of fields, including economics, regional science, regional economics, city, regional and urban planning, environmental planning, public policy analysis and public management.

Input-Output Analysis of Large-Scale Interconnected Systems

  • Publisher: Springer

This book is intended to be a fairly comprehensive treatment of large-scale interconnected systems from an input- output viewpoint. Prior to treating the question of stability (and instability), we study both the decomposition and the well-posedness of such systems. It is not necessary for the reader to have studied feedback stability before tackling this book, as we develop results concerning feedback systems as special cases of more general results pertaining to large-scale systems. However, the reader should know some elementary functional analysis (e.g. Lebesgue spaces, contraction mapping theorem), and have some general knowledge (e.g. Perron-Frobenius theorem). The first chapter is introductory, and chapters 2 and 3 contain background material; after that, the remaining chapters are essentially independent and can be read in any order.
