Jewish Inscriptions of Graeco-Roman Egypt
This book collects all known Jewish inscriptions in Egypt between the third century BC and the sixth century AD. The entry on each inscription provides text, translation, bibliography and commentary. Hitherto, it has been necessary to refer to an older collection (1952, but essentially pre-war) together with a separately published revision (1964), with very limited indexing. Here the aim has been to include inscriptions not in the earlier collection, to bring together the necessary information on each inscription, and to supply full indexing. The inscriptions form a vivid primary source for Jewish history and religion.
Egyptian Historical Inscriptions of the Nineteenth Dynasty
A series of major inscriptions from the 19th Dynasty (c.1300-1185 BC) accompanied by an English translation. The inscriptions chosen are based around four main subject areas: war and diplomacy; mining and quarrying; religion; legal and adminstrative texts.
Pharaonic Inscriptions from the Southern Eastern Desert of Egypt
The University of Minnesota Eastern Desert Expedition had its beginnings in 1975, when co-authors George (Rip) Rapp, T. H. Wertime, and J. D. Muhly visited cassiterite (tin ore) mines in the southern Eastern Desert of Egypt. Near the farthest west of these mines, they were shown a group of pharaonic inscriptions by M. F. el-Ramly of the Egyptian Geological Survey and Mining Authority. The inscriptions were photographed, and the photos were given to an Egyptologist to translate. Much later, in 1991, senior author Russell D. Rothe read about the photos in a footnote in an unrelated article. The Libyan Anarchy
