El estudio del municipio borbónico de Xàtiva y el proceso de su instauración y consolidación tras la Guerra de Sucesión permite conocer, desde la perspectiva del cambio político local, este periodo decisivo de la historia valenciana. De este modo, se aborda el desarrollo, a lo largo del Setecientos, de las nuevas instituciones borbónicas en Xàtiva, ahora San Felipe, como el corregimiento y ayuntamiento. Y ello a través de un pormenorizado estudio tanto del proceso normativo que la Corona utilizó, como de la lucha política por el poder de las elites y oligarquías urbanas que aplicaron el nuevo proyecto de régimen municipal. Una transformación de las instituciones del poder local que, tras las iniciales improvisaciones, acabó consolidándose con éxito.
