This work discusses the use of digital computers in the real-time control of dynamic systems using both classical and modern control methods. Two new chapters offer a review of feedback control systems and an overview of digital control systems. MATLAB statements and problems have been more thoroughly and carefully integrated throughout the text to offer students a more complete design picture.
Straight talk from a successful entrepreneur and experienced counselor who teaches Fortune 500 executives how to find deeper meaning and purpose in their lives. Park the Ferrari! This is not a book about the male mid-life crisis. Instead, it is an exploration of the shift in focus a man experiences as he progresses into the more mature years of his life. Learn what it means to be an older man in our culture, and what physical and psychological changes to expect as you move into your second half-century of life. Find meaning through spiritual exploration. Develop depth by reinvesting in your intimate relationships and community. Without being preachy or abstract, this book gives practical advice about dealing with crises of identity, mortality, and belonging. The crux of the book is based on teaching men how to give meaning to their lives, find self-directed and community driven purpose in their activities, and develop their spiritual side.
An introduction and practitioners guide to the implementation of Operations Readiness & Assurance, particularly in Oil & Gas Projects. Written by David C. Powell, a time served engineer with 40+ years of experience in Oil & Gas Projects in every type of climate and location worldwide. David has worked in OR&A for more than 12 years for several different major companies. The book describes the history behind the development of Project Management techniques leading to the development of OR&A as a discipline and suggests the best available methods for creating an OR&A capability and implementing the OR&A process on a Project.
This is the eBook of the printed book and may not include any media, website access codes, or print supplements that may come packaged with the bound book. For senior-level or first-year graduate-level courses in control analysis and design, and related courses within engineering, science, and management. Feedback Control of Dynamic Systems, Sixth Edition is perfect for practicing control engineers who wish to maintain their skills. This revision of a top-selling textbook on feedback control with the associated web site, FPE6e.com, provides greater instructor flexibility and student readability. Chapter 4 on A First Analysis of Feedback has been substantially rewritten to present the material in a more logical and effective manner. A new case study on biological control introduces an important new area to the students, and each chapter now includes a historical perspective to illustrate the origins of the field. As in earlier editions, the book has been updated so that solutions are based on the latest versions of MATLAB and SIMULINK. Finally, some of the more exotic topics have been moved to the web site.
The original text of the Constitution grants Congress the power to create a regime of intellectual property protection. The first amendment, however, prohibits Congress from enacting any law that abridges the freedoms of speech and of the press. While many have long noted the tension between these provisions, recent legal and cultural developments have transformed mere tension into conflict. No Law offers a new way to approach these debates. In eloquent and passionate style, Lange and Powell argue that the First Amendment imposes absolute limits upon claims of exclusivity in intellectual property and expression, and strips Congress of the power to restrict personal thought and free expressio...
Long a fruitful area of scrutiny for students of organizations, the study of institutions is undergoing a renaissance in contemporary social science. This volume offers, for the first time, both often-cited foundation works and the latest writings of scholars associated with the "institutional" approach to organization analysis. In their introduction, the editors discuss points of convergence and disagreement with institutionally oriented research in economics and political science, and locate the "institutional" approach in relation to major developments in contemporary sociological theory. Several chapters consolidate the theoretical advances of the past decade, identify and clarify the pa...
The first Asian Accelerator School (AAS) was organised to show the rapid development of accelerator sciences based on electron storage rings in Asia. At present seven electron-positron colliders are operational in the world, and two of them are located in Asia: KEKB (the KEK B-Factory) at KEK in Japan, and BEPC at IHEP in China. It is also notable that one-third of the operating synchrotron light sources are Asian machines. To further improve the performance of electron storage rings, the use of superconducting magnets and cavities is of vital importance; therefore the curriculum of AAS was arranged not only to teach the basic physics of storage rings but also to give students a basic knowledge of superconducting technology.
This book is a revision and extension of my 1995 Sourcebook of Control Systems Engineering. Because of the extensions and other modifications, it has been retitled Handbook of Control Systems Engineering, which it is intended to be for its prime audience: advanced undergraduate students, beginning graduate students, and practising engineers needing an understandable review of the field or recent developments which may prove useful. There are several differences between this edition and the first. • Two new chapters on aspects of nonlinear systems have been incorporated. In the first of these, selected material for nonlinear systems is concentrated on four aspects: showing the value of cert...
