Precision agriculture '09
Precision Agriculture is becoming ever more relevant as the agricultural industry struggles to come to terms with the environment, economics, traceability, vehicle guidance and crop management. Whilst some benefits have proved elusive, others contribute positively to today’s agriculture. Research continues to be necessary and needs to be reported and disseminated to a wide audience. These proceedings contain the reviewed papers from the 7th European Conference on Precision Agriculture. The papers reflect the wide range of disciplines that impinge upon precision agriculture including remote sensing, plant disease and weed detection, yield monitoring, soil sensing, geo statistics and path planning, regional and crop modelling, cooperation and guidance of robots, precision application, ICT in precision agriculture, future farming and European relevance for precision agriculture. The broad range of research topics reported is a valuable resource for researchers, advisors, teachers and professionals in agriculture. Also note that the reviewed papers from the 4th European Conference on Precision Livestock Farming are presented in a companion publication.
Post Treatments of Anaerobically Treated Effluents
The anaerobic process is considered to be a sustainable technology for organic waste treatment mainly due to its lower energy consumption and production of residual solids coupled with the prospect of energy recovery from the biogas generated. However, the anaerobic process cannot be seen as providing the ‘complete’ solution as its treated effluents would typically not meet the desired discharge limits in terms of residual carbon, nutrients and pathogens. Impact of Farmland Abandonment on Water Resources and Soil Conservation
Farmland abandonment is one of the major land use changes occurring in many rural territories, especially in mountainous regions. Without intervention (passive land management), farmland abandonment leads to an expansion of shrubs and forest on formerly cultivated hillslopes and grazing areas. All these land use changes affect the hydrological and geomorphological dynamics of slopes and channels, having important implications for water resources and soil conservation. However, the heterogeneity of abandoned scenarios complicates the assessment of farmland abandonment on water resources and soil conservation. In this Special Issue, we will publish papers that examine the hydrological and geomorphological consequences of farmland abandonment in one (or several) of these abandoned scenarios. Our final purpose is to help water and land managers to select the most sustainable strategy (in terms of water resources and soil conservation) for the land management of marginal rural areas.
50th Anniversary of Adult Neurogenesis: Olfaction, Hippocampus and beyond
In the mid-sixties, the discovery by Altman and co-workers of neurogenesis in the adult brain changed the previous conception of the immutability of this organ during adulthood sustained among others by Cajal. This discovery was ignored up to eighty’s when Nottebohm demonstrated neurogenesis in birds. Subsequently, two main neurogenic zones were characterized: the subventricular zone of the lateral ventricle and the subgranular layer of the dentate gyrus. Half century later, the exact role of new neurons in the adult brain is not completely understand. This book is composed by a number of articles by leaders in the filed covering from an historic perspective to potential therapeutic opportunities.

Approximately 1600 years of Spanish art are documented with consideration paid to each artist's birth and death dates, medium and bibliographical references. The three-volume work lists about 10,000 painters, sculptors, draftsmen, printmakers, architects and applied artists. Some entries also include explanatory, interpretive or clarifying notes.
