Control Reconfiguration of Dynamical Systems
Reconfiguration, an approach for fault-tolerant control, involves changing the control structure in response to the fault. This monograph extends this idea to actuator faults and studies in detail the so-called virtual actuator approach. "Control Reconfiguration of Dynamical Systems" also introduces structural analysis as a tool for reconfiguration. Because a fault changes the structure of the system, the reconfiguration solution is sought on a structural level. Novel algorithms are presented to test for reconfigurability and to find a reconfiguration solution. A MATLAB toolbox is supplied, which contains the main algorithms and examples. The book addresses advanced engineering students, developers and researchers that have a specific interest in control reconfiguration.

Adaptive Control
Adaptive Control provides techniques for automatic, real-time adjustments in controller parameters with a view to achieving and/or maintaining a desirable level of system performance in the presence of unknown or variable process parameters. Many aspects of the field are dealt with in coherent and orderly fashion, starting with the problems posed by system uncertainties and moving on to the presentation of solutions and their practical significance. Within the general context of recent developments, the book looks at: • synthesis and analysis of parameter adaptation algorithms; • recursive plant-model identification in open and closed loop; • robust digital control for adaptive control; • direct and indirect adaptive control; and • practical aspects and applications. To reflect the importance of digital computers for the application of adaptive control techniques, discrete-time aspects are emphasized. To guide the reader, the book contains various applications of adaptive control techniques.

Robust Control of Time-delay Systems
Recently, there have been significant developments in robust control of time-delay systems. This volume presents a systematic treatment of robust control for such systems in the frequency domain. The emphasis is on systems with a single input or output delay, although the delay-free part of the plant can be multi-input-multi-output, in which case the delays in different channels should be the same. The author covers the whole range of H-infinity control of time-delay systems: from controller parameterization implementation; from the Nehari problem to the four-block problem; from theoretical developments to practical issues. The major tools used are similarity transformation, the chain-scattering approach and J-spectral factorization. Self-contained, "Robust Control of Time-delay Systems" will interest control theorists and mathematicians working with time-delay systems. Its methodical approach will be of value to graduates studying general robust control theory or its applications in time-delay systems.

Robust Adaptive Control
The workshop brought together international experts in the field of robust adaptive control to present recent developments in the area. These indicated that the theory of adaptive control is moving closer to applications and is beginning to give realistic guidelines useful in practical situations. The proceedings also focused on the value of such practical features as filtering, normalization, deadzones and unification of robust control and adaptation.
