This book first introduces a single polaron and describes recent achievements in analytical and numerical studies of polaron properties in different e-ph models. It then describes multi-polaron physics as well as many key physical properties of high-temperature superconductors, colossal magnetoresistance oxides, conducting polymers and molecular nanowires, which were understood with polarons and bipolarons.
The 1984 Advanced Study Institute on "Electronic Structure, Dynamics and Quantum Structural Properties of Condensed Matter" took place at the Corsendonk Conference Center, close to the City of Antwerpen, from July 16 till 27, 1984. This book contains the invited contributions to the 6th International Conference on Path Integrals from peV to TeV, held in Florence in 1998. The conference, devoted to functional integration, brought together many physicists with interests ranging from elementary particles to nuclear, solid state, liquid state, polymer and complex systems physics. The variety of topics is reflected in the book, which is a unique collection of papers on manifold applications of functional methods in several areas of physics.

This three-volume book provides a comprehensive review of experiments in very strong magnetic fields that can only be generated with very special magnets. The first volume is entirely devoted to the technology of laboratory magnets: permanent, superconducting, high-power water-cooled and hybrid; pulsed magnets, both nondestructive and destructive (megagauss fields). Volumes 2 and 3 contain reviews of the different areas of research where strong magnetic fields are an essential research tool. Attempts to treat electron-phonon coupled systems, with emphasis on Many Body aspects for dense electron systems, taking into account continuum as well as lattice polaron effects. This work aims to introduce the study of such systems, where strong electron-electron correlations and large electron-phonon coupling strengths play important roles.

This volume is a collection of papers from the third meeting of the international symposium on mesoscopic superconductivity and spintronics. Research on quantum information technology has advanced a great deal since the previous meeting. Mesoscopic physics, such as spins in nano-scale semiconductor structures, micro-fabricated superconducting junctions and extraordinary metal contacts have now been not only theoretically but also experimentally established as important solid-state elements of quantum information devices. The book also contains some papers on information theory from the viewpoint of quantum algorithms, indicating that further collaboration between physics and computer science promises to produce fruitful results in quantum information technology.
