Chirality from Dynamic Kinetic Resolution

The last 15 years have witnessed significant developments in the efficiency and scope of the application of DKR. These now offer a serious alternative to conventional methods for asymmetric synthesis. Indeed, impressive examples using new enzymes and major progress in the DKR of racemates have taken place over the past few years. The powerful combination of enzymes and metals has also been the subject of spectacular development. In addition, a new type of DKR, involving organocatalysts, has recently appeared. Although asymmetric catalysis has undergone development during the last two decades, the most common industrial process used to obtain enantiomerically pure compounds is still via resol...

Advances in Semiconductor Lasers

Semiconductors and Semimetals has distinguished itself through the careful selection of well-known authors, editors, and contributors. Originally widely known as the "Willardson and Beer" Series, it has succeeded in publishing numerous landmark volumes and chapters. The series publishes timely, highly relevant volumes intended for long-term impact and reflecting the truly interdisciplinary nature of the field. The volumes in Semiconductors and Semimetals have been and will continue to be of great interest to physicists, chemists, materials scientists, and device engineers in academia, scientific laboratories and modern industry. The series publishes timely, highly relevant volumes intended for long-term impact and reflecting the truly interdisciplinary nature of the field

This Proceedings of APCRE'05 contains the articles that were presented at the 4th Asia-Pacific Chemical Reaction Engineering Symposium (APCRE’05), held at Gyeongju, Korea between June 12 and June 15, 2005, with a theme of "New Opportunities of Chemical Reaction Engineering in Asia-Pacific Region". Following the tradition of APCRE Symposia and ISCRE, the scientific program encompassed a wide spectrum of topics, including not only the traditional areas but also the emerging fields of chemical reaction engineering into which the chemical reaction engineers have successfully spearheaded and made significant contributions in recent years. In addition to the 190 papers being accepted, six plenary lectures and 11 invited lectures are placed in two separate chapters in the front. * Provides an overview of new developments and application in chemical reaction engineering* Topics include traditional and emerging fields * Papers reviewed by experts in the field

From Intrinsic to Extrinsic Design of Lithium-Ion Battery Layered Oxide Cathode Material Via Doping Strategies

This book addresses the comprehensive understanding of Ni-rich layered oxide of lithium-ion batteries cathodes materials, especially focusing on the effect of dopant on the intrinsic and extrinsic effect to its host materials. This book can be divided into three parts, that is, 1. overall understanding of layered oxide system, 2. intrinsic effect of dopant on layered oxides, and 3. extrinsic effect of dopant on layered oxides. To truly understand and discover the fundamental solution (e.g. doping) to improve the Ni-rich layered oxides cathodic performance, understanding the foundation of layered oxide degradation mechanism is the key, thus, the first chapter focuses on discovering the true degradation mechanisms of layered oxides systems. Then, the second and third chapter deals with the effect of dopant on alleviating the fundamental degradation mechanism of Ni-rich layered oxides, which we believe is the first insight ever been provided. The content described in this book will provide research insight to develop high-performance Ni-rich layered oxide cathode materials and serve as a guide for those who study energy storage systems.

Appropriate selection of biochemical targets is one of the most important drivers of cost effectiveness in the discovery of new medicines. Despite the many advances in genetics, genomics and systems biology, ‘validation’ of a target is not achieved until therapeutic efficacy is demonstrated by a drug candidate. Volume 46 of this series reviews the medicinal chemistry aimed at six diverse targets from which important new medicines are emerging: * HIV integrase (discovery of the first-in-class inhibitor drug raltegravir)* 11-beta-Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (new approach to glucocorticoid regulation)* Nicotinic a7 choline receptor (agonists and positive allosteric modulators). * Bradykinin receptor (new approach to pain therapy)* Histone deacetylase (new drugs for cancer)* 5-HT2c receptor modulators (various CNS indications) *Presents the latest research in the field of drug discovery *Publishes on an annual basis to bring you the most innovative updates in medicinal chemistry *Available as an online resource via ScienceDirect
