The true story of the 101st Airborne Division’s most notorious squad of combat paratroopers—the inspiration for the classic WWII film, The Dirty Dozen. Since World War II, the American public has learned of the exploits of the 101st Airborne Division, the paratroopers who led the Allied invasions into Nazi-held Europe. But within the ranks of the 101st, one unit attained truly legendary status. Known as the Filthy Thirteen, they were the real-life inspiration for The Dirty Dozen. Primarily products of the Dustbowl and the Depression, the Filthy Thirteen became notorious within the elite Screaming Eagles for their hard drinking and savage fighting skills. From D-Day until the end of the w...

Summary of Richard Killblane & Jake McNiece's The Filthy Thirteen

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 I was never really interested in the war until after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. I had been working as a fireman for the War Department for quite a while. After Pearl Harbor, there was a big project at Pine Bluff Perkins about sixty miles south of Little Rock, Arkansas. #2 I wanted to be a paratrooper, so I told the recruiter I did not want the infantry or tanks or artillery, but paratroop service. He said a thousand people volunteer for paratroop duty, but only ten are selected who are physically fit. #3 I enlisted in the paratroopers in September 1942. I preferred fighting on the ground to fighting in the air. I would not have to walk a hundred miles to get started. I would fly first class in a C-47 and jump right in the middle of them. #4 I was sent to Fort Sill in 1942. There, I was put in charge of the seven volunteers who would become the first members of the airborne division. I saw that we were going to have a short stopover in Tulsa, so I asked Manual if he wanted to see his family one last time.

In 2004 the world was first introduced to The Filthy Thirteen, a book describing the most notorious squad of fighting men in the 101st Airborne Division (and the inspiration for the movie ÒThe Dirty DozenÓ). In this long awaited work one of the squadÕs integral membersÑand probably its best soldierÑreveals his own inside account of fighting as a spearhead of the Screaming Eagles in Normandy, Market Garden, and the Battle of the Bulge. Jack Womer was originally a member of the 29th Infantry Division and was selected to be part of its elite Ranger battalion. But after a year of grueling training under the eyes of British Commando instructors, the 29th Rangers were suddenly dissolved. Bitt...

Human Papillomavirus

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection transcends multiple fields of science and medicine. The management of HPV-related disease is demanding and often requires a persistent multimodal approach involving various medical disciplines. In this volume, experts present a comprehensive view of HPV research with an emphasis on clinical presentations, diagnosis, management and vaccine development. The state of the art in molecular biology is provided in addition to discussions on clinical morphology and the utility of dermatoscopy in identifying HPV disease. In a multidisciplinary approach to dermatological, plastic and reconstructive, gynecological, otolaryngological and colorectal management, different treatment strategies are highlighted. Finally, Dr. Neil Christensen discusses viral immunology, and the difficulties and successes in the development of an HPV vaccine. Bringing together basic science and clinical information on HPV, this book is an excellent resource and reference for all researchers and clinicians who encounter human papillomavirus-related disease.

From Marcus Brotherton, co-author of Call of Duty, comes a new collection of untold stories from the Band of Brothers. Look for the Band of Brothers miniseries, now available to stream on Netflix! They were the men of the now-legendary Easy Company. After almost two years of hard training, they parachuted into Normandy on D-Day and, later, Operation Market Garden. They fought their way through Belgium, France, and Germany, survived overwhelming odds, liberated concentration camps, and drank a victory toast in April 1945 at Hitler's hideout in the Alps. Here, revealed for the first time, are stories of war, sacrifice, and courage as experienced by one of the most revered combat units in military history. In We Who Are Alive and Remain, twenty men who were there and are alive today—and the families of three deceased others—recount the horrors and the victories, the bonds they made, the tears and blood they shed...and the brothers they lost.

Since World War II, the American public has become fully aware of the exploits of the 101st Airborne Division, the paratroopers who led the Allied invasions into Nazi-held Europe. But within the ranks of the 101st, a sub-unit attained legendary status at the time, its reputation persisting among veterans over the decades. Primarily products of the Dustbowl and the Depression, the Filthy13 grew notorious, even within the ranks of the elite 101st. Never ones to salute an officer, or take a bath, this squad became singular within the Screaming Eagles for its hard drinking, and savage fighting skill--and that was only in training. Just prior to the invasion of Normandy, a "Stars and Stripes" pho...
