James White is a storyteller, author and civil war reenactor. He was born in Southport, North Carolina in 1963, the ninth of eleven children born to Mary and the late Joseph White Jr. He has two sons and a stepdaughter: James Jr., Jayden White and Laquenta Freeman. He has lived in Leland for the past 15 years and has worked in the mental health field for over fifteen years working with the homeless, adult mental health and mentally and behaviorally challenged youth.
