The general aim of this book is to present selected chapters of the following types: chapters with more focus on modeling with some necessary simulation details and chapters with less focus on modeling but with more simulation details. This book contains eleven chapters divided into two sections: Modeling in Continuum Mechanics and Modeling in Electronics and Engineering. We hope our book entitled "Modeling and Simulation in Engineering - Selected Problems" will serve as a useful reference to students, scientists, and engineers.
This book presents examples of modern optimization algorithms. The focus is on a clear understanding of underlying studied problems, understanding described algorithms by a broad range of scientists and providing (computational) examples that a reader can easily repeat.
It is a great pleasure to share with you the Springer LNCS proceedings of the Second World Summit on the Knowledge Society, WSKS 2009, organized by the Open - search Society, Ngo, http://www.open-knowledge-society.org, and held in Samaria Hotel, in the beautiful city of Chania in Crete, Greece, September 16–18, 2009. The 2nd World Summit on the Knowledge Society (WSKS 2009) was an inter- tional scientific event devoted to promoting dialogue on the main aspects of the knowledge society towards a better world for all. The multidimensional economic and social crisis of the last couple of years has brought to the fore the need to discuss in depth new policies and strategies for a human centric...
These proceedings collect the major part of the lectures given at ENU MATH2003, the European Conference on Numerical Mathematics and Ad vanced Applications, held in Prague, Czech Republic, from 18 August to 22 August, 2003. The importance of numerical and computational mathematics and sci entific computing is permanently growing. There is an increasing number of different research areas, where numerical simulation is necessary. Let us men tion fluid dynamics, continuum mechanics, electromagnetism, phase transi tion, cosmology, medicine, economics, finance, etc. The success of applications of numerical methods is conditioned by changing its basic instruments and looking for new appropriate te...
This two-volume set, LNCS 13826 and LNCS 13827, constitutes the proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Parallel Processing and Applied Mathematics, PPAM 2022, held in Gdansk, Poland, in September 2022. The 77 regular papers presented in these volumes were selected from 132 submissions. For regular tracks of the conference, 33 papers were selected from 62 submissions. The papers were organized in topical sections named as follows: Part I: numerical algorithms and parallel scientific computing; parallel non-numerical algorithms; GPU computing; performance analysis and prediction in HPC systems; scheduling for parallel computing; environments and frameworks for parallel/cloud compu...
The book presents a collection of MATLAB-based chapters of various engineering background. Instead of giving exhausting amount of technical details, authors were rather advised to explain relations of their problems to actual MATLAB concepts. So, whenever possible, download links to functioning MATLAB codes were added and a potential reader can do own testing. Authors are typically scientists with interests in modeling in MATLAB. Chapters include image and signal processing, mechanics and dynamics, models and data identification in biology, fuzzy logic, discrete event systems and data acquisition systems.
The ongoing global climate change triggered by greenhouse gas growth has had a significant effect on the microbial dynamics of plants and soils. This volume explores the various microbial responses of plants and soils caused directly or indirectly by climate change resulting from rising greenhouse gases and other factors. The book considers the rapidly changing environment and the important role of microbiomes in restoring soil and plant health and in creating sustainable approaches. It discusses the adaptation and mitigation of plants and soils, specifically addressing such topics as biogeochemical processes, antimicrobial resistance, the dynamics of bacteria and fungus in extreme environments, bacterial siderophores for sustainability, and more. The volume also looks at edaphic and regeneration performance of tree species in the temperate forests.
These proceedings collect lectures given at ENUMATH 2005, the 6th European Conference on Numerical Mathematics and Advanced Applications held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain in July, 2005. Topics include applications such as fluid dynamics, electromagnetism, structural mechanics, interface problems, waves, finance, heat transfer, unbounded domains, numerical linear algebra, convection-diffusion, as well as methodologies such as a posteriori error estimates, discontinuous Galerkin methods, multiscale methods, optimization, and more.
This book constitutes revised selected papers from the 13th International Conference on Large-Scale Scientific Computing, LSSC 23021, which was held in Sozopol, Bulgaria, during June 7-11, 2021. The 60 papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 73 submissions. The volume also includes two invited talks in full paper length. The papers were organized in topical sections as follows: Fractional diffusion problems: numerical methods, algorithms and applications; large-scale models: numerical methods, parallel computations and applications; application of metaheuristics to large-scale problems; advanced discretizations and solvers for coupled systems of partial differential equations; optimal control of ODEs, PDEs and applications; tensor and matrix factorization for big-data analysis; machine learning and model order reduction for large scale predictive simulations; HPC and big data: algorithms and applications; and contributed papers.
