In the mid-19th century, many Dutch immigrants were drawn to the Midwestern United States. Most were farmers, escaping low salaries and high taxes in the Netherlands. My great-grandparents were among these, settling in the south part of Chicago and nearby. This area was called Roseland and South Holland. Families from among these immigrants founded the Dutch or First Reformed Church of Roseland. An important part of their settlement was the Dutch or First Reform Church of Roseland. As it grew so did the families. This is the genealogy of the ancestors of my mother's parents. It was done for our family, but others may find it useful. The main trees included are Vanderbilt, DeVos and VanVuuren. The genealogies within the U.S. are quite solid. The rest may require some verification. Infection in the cancer patient is extremely common, either precipitated by the cancer itself or by the cancer therapies. Virtually all cancer patients develop an infection during their illness, often life-threatening and requiring urgent treatment. When we were first approached by the senior editors of this series to edit a book on interactions between the host and infectious agents, we accepted this offer as an exciting challenge. Since 1959, the International Society of Arterial Chemoreception (ISAC) has organized in a variety of countries fifteen scientific meetings devoted to the mechanisms of peripheral arterial chemoreception and chemoreceptor reflexes. After the meeting held in Philadelphia with Sukhamay Lahiri as president, ISAC membership elected Lyon (CNRS, University Claude Bernard, France) as the site of the xv" ISAC Symposium. This book examines the role of the Dutch Catholic church, and especially of the bishops, in ensuring the solidarity of the Catholic subculture for so many years and, more remarkably, in promoting drastic social and political changes after Vatican II. This development transformed one of the most orthodox churches in Western Europe into the most radical and, as Professor Bakvis demonstrates, led to the decline and fall of the largest political party in the Netherlands. The author also discusses the recent formulation of the Christian Democratic party and the impact of John Paul II's pontificate. He has drawn upon interviews with priests and politicians, as well as survey and ecological data, in his portrayal of life inside the Catholic subculture at both the grass-roots and the elite levels. The result is a substantial contribution to our understanding of the interaction of religion and politics in a plural society and the sources of party loyalty and subcultural cohesion.

Experimental and clinical evidence presented in this book illustrates that antibodies expressing different specificities can be very effective in preventing or reversing established transplant rejection. Moreover, the data leads us to hope that the use of these new therapeutic agents may allow the induction of specific tolerance to transplant alloantigens which is the only means to avoid the major risks of sustained immunosuppression, namely an increased susceptibility to infection and tumor development. In this volume the editors combine contributions dealing with very practical aspects of the clinical use of monoclonal antibodies with a more general discussion on the developments one may foresee in the near future.
