Abner Woodall was born April 25, 1798 in Johnston County, North Carolina. Sarah "Sallie" Baugh was born in 1791 in Virginia. They were married February 20, 1819 in Putnam County, Georgia. They had six children. Abner died in 1833 and Sarah died in 1856. They were both buried in Talbot, Georgia. Descendants and relatives lived in Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and elsewhere.

Thomas MackGehee (d.1724) emigrated in 1643 from Scotland to King William County, Virginia. Vol. 1 contains research on his Scottish ancestry, including the debated McGregor connection and a letter on the subject from Sir Gregor MacGregor, hereditary chief of Clan Gregor of Scotland. It also contains research of the descendants and relatives of three of Thomas' nine children: William, Diannah MacGehee Lipscomb, and Sarah MackGehee Lipscomb. Vol. 2 contains research on the descendants and relatives of three more of the nine children: Abraham, Samuel and Jacob. Vol. 3 is devoted to the descendants of Edward.
